Or grew up on Kodachrome. K-chrome was wonderful in many ways but there was little latitude adjust the results. I never saw a print that was as satisfying as a projection of the original. I think the whole SOOC ethic originated by nessesity from Kodachrome.

Speaking of SOOC, have you ever compared a RAW image to a JPEG? They both come straight out of the same digital camera, yet in my experience are different. Is one more valid than the other? Are JPEG shooters cheating themselves? Are RAW shooters getting a more honest image?

I respect Zoo man's original premise, but most people that see a particular photograph have not seen the exact location of the photo under the exact lighting conditions shown in the picture. Just think of all of the settings on a modern digital camera. The time of day, a passing cloud, a bird flying by, the list of variables is infinite! What I am saying here is, if there is no concrete way to verify reality in photograph, why does it matter?

I shot a similar wedding- small group, outdoors by a pool. It was cloudy that particular afternoon, so there was less light than I expected. Your flash will be critical as sun goes down. Bounce flash won't help if there is no ceiling! I have a Nikkor 85mm f/1.8G which helped in low light and portrait shots. It's your Mom's wedding, so remember to have a good time. Do some fun shots, people jumping in the air, etc.

So I'm shooting a Soccer Game, (officially to boot) and my D750 froze up. Couldn't do a thing, nothing was working (freshly charged bats) yet I could see some info on the top screen. I was using a Nikon 70-200 VRII with a Nikon 2.0 TC. at the time. Which I've used many times prior with no problems. Remedy.... removed the camera battery (not the MD bat) shoved it back in and all was good again. Anyone else have this happen?

Thanks,
Doug

I have had this happen to me with my old D80 and D7000. Google "Nikon D750 firmware update". There are links to download version 1.02 of the "C" firmware and instructions on how to check your current version. It says that the update will improve camera operation.Hope that it solves your problem!

Many cameras provide a grid that you can see in the viewfinder, some of them can be used to observe the rule of thirds. The horizontal lines serve as an artificial horizon. Also, using a tripod with a built in level is another way to have the camera parallel with the horizon. In addition, most cropping tools in PP can fix the situation if all else fails.

BTW, great pictures! My son and his family live in Henderson, and we both enjoy shooting the scenery in the great southwest.

On my Windows 8.1 machine, I set the Spyder program to run only when I tell it to. It loads the calibrated settings only when I turn it on. Problem solved?

I would suggest calibrating your monitor. I use an older Spyder3 from DataColor. I have a Epson 3800 wide format printer and Windows laptop. A calibrated monitor and the proper paper profiles should be all you need to make it happen!

My wife and I really enjoyed the Native American sites that are all over Arizona. Some are on Indian lands and require admission fees, some are in parks that are free. This list is far from complete, but be sure to see Antelope Canyon, Vermilion Cliffs, Pyramid Lake, Montezuma’s Castle, Montezuma’s Well, V-Bar-V Heritage Site. The last three are near Sedona.

I find that my cell phone is better suited to the task. It is always in my pocket, and I can use it with one hand. I am familiar with navigating the menus, and there is usually an answer to my problem online because so many people use them. I like to shoot the Milky Way, and the built in flashlight comes in handy in dark places. In a pinch, I can call one of my photo buddies for advice when I need it.

I didn't really answer your question, but you could save some $$$ if you already have a phone!

2 questions:

1. Which operating system do you use?

2. How old is your computer?
