Yep, Aperture will work....until it doesn't. Then what?

Why would it stop working ??
There is no self destruct timer in it.
I plan to keep using it until I stop.

No reason to stay away from them, as you can turn this "feature" on and off in the camera's menu. So all you need to do is familiarize yourself with the menu.

The Canon D11 has that feature, as that is the camera this thread was started with.
My E-5 has that feature, I always make sure it is turned off.
My E-M1 does not, so no worry.
My C-4000 showed time and date while playing back, and could be printed on the photos as well.
Our old film Ricoh camera also could print the date on photos.

Thank you for that.

Right now the 50D's are running under $500.
My wife has a Tamron 28-200 with EF mount that does a great job for the price. You may find one for around $100.
Check with your local dealer to see what they have used for you.
My local shop does well by me with used stuff that he takes in.

Apple did not say they are discontinuing Aperture, only that they are not going to add further upgrades to it.
I plan to keep using it. The Photos app they are changing to only runs on Mavericks OS which I don't plan to switch to either.

But what program does that?

I have owned cameras in the past that will superimpose the date stamp on the photo and when it's on it takes careful editing to "get rid of it" - it is a "feature" that needs to be turned on or off in the camera's menu.
Even as far back as film cameras, and often wished the camera would put the date in the film's margin, NOT on the photo itself. Because of that, I always turned it off.

Over the years, I have also tried out a large number of editing programs, and have never run into one that takes the date from the exif and superimposes it on the image.

With all due respect, BigBear, I believe that you are mistaken: the date/time stamp that shows up on photos in bright orange letters is placed there by the camera. To my knowledge there is no program that will superimpose dates or any other information onto a photo - at least not without the user's input.
But what program does that? br br I have owned c... (show quote)

It sounds like you are talking about something I am totally unaware of. I would like to know what cameras do that so I can stay away from them.

Interesting! What camera and what program? You've got me curious now.

I use Aperture for my photos and it does not impose any info over the pic itself.

BigBear, if you talk about the "date stamp" that shows up in a photo's exif data, no, you don't want to remove it.
But if you have a printed photo, or even a photo on your computer's monitor stating in the bottom right corner, in bright orange digits: "24.12.2014" wouldn't you want to remove it?

Mine do not show up like that. It is the program you are viewing it in that does that not the camera.

My buddy has been shooting with a D7000 for a while and recently got the D700. I don't think he has looked back to the D7000 since.
I just changed up from a 50D to a 5D mk iii (thank you to my wife) and I haven't picked up the 50D to shoot with, only to have as backup.

The first gen 100-400 is able to AF in LiveView only with a 2x.
The second gen is supposed to AF in and out of LiveView with the 2x.

I down loaded some photos from a trip I took and discovered that all the photos have a time and date stamp on them. Does anyone know how I can get rid of the time and date stamp?

Why would you want to remove it ??
I don't know of any cameras that will blank it out.

It really does depend on the manufacturer. There's not much incentive for them to get parts out to independent shops. If you get tired of waiting, you might buy a new product.

EDIT: I just recalled that a member said that Precision is the repair facility for Canon, so Canon is not dragging its feet. It's probably just a matter of getting the parts. There could be a backlog if more than one camera needed that part.

They are authorized repair shop for Nikon as well as Canon.
I would call them if you would like an explanation for the delay. They are very helpful and will do what ever they can to serve you.

I use Precision for repairs and for general tuning and cleaning on occasion as needed.
I always got them back within a week. I never had to wait for parts. And shipping is only a 10 min drive for me.

try this abbreviated version for Canon:

DSLR Model number must contain a D. and no more than 2 digits before the D. The rest is inferior.

Canon lenses must contain an L. All others are junk.

Canon Speed lights must start with >500

Any questions, stay tuned.

Inferior = Works well if you can't afford high end models.
Speedlites starting with 1,2,3 and 5 are discontinued. Only the 430exII and the 600ex rt are current.

Yes it helps, thanks.

Another question though. Are 1D, 5D, 6D, 7D, 50D, 60D, 70D, SX etc. available in the USA or only Rebels?

When I come home, to the Mid West, I hope I am not the only one with a 60D.

I still shoot with a pair of 50D's (and will until I can afford the 5D mk iii), and my wife has a T5i that uses the same EF lenses.

I know my controls well enough to change most of them without having to look for where they are. But when I pick up her Rebel, I don't know where to find any of them and at a loss if I want to just pick it up and start shooting.

Print size and quality is determined by the sensor.

As far as lens choices go, I only buy Canon EF.
