An even better full frame camera would be the 1Dx. On record as the best camera in the world. The high ISO is amazing. Let me know if you want more info on the 1Dx or the 5D Mark III.

When I first read the title, I thought what a strange, three-fold-question. First I think, one can not up grade from a Nikon to a Canon, or visa versa, only from one model to the next one in line (the other one I consider a switch). Then I saw the D750 and the M III. The D750 came to my mind after you mentioned full frame in the title, as that is the one I would choose. Canon does not have anything comparable in that price-range, the M III might be a somewhat "competitor", but you'll have to shell out another grand for that one, and the D750 can do anything the M III can and maybe more. So, if you want to "up-grade", I think the D750 would be an excellent choice!!

With all due respect speters, the prices of these two cameras are a lot closer than you think.

Adorama Canon 5D Mark III - $2470 right now (body only with goodies)

B&H Nikon D750 $2396 right now (body only with goodies)

Admittedly the D750 has a better sensor and has newer tech but the 5DIII is very comparable.

I still think this thread sounds suspiciously like a Nikon or Canon war in disguise. Personally I think the original poster should stick with the brand he has now providing he can use his lenses.

Thanks for the comments. At present I only have a couple of Nikon kit lenses so, the main thing was (1) whether to upgrade to a full frame camera and (2) if so, since I have a minimal lens investment thus far whether to go with a Cannon or Nikon FFC.

This issue of the "Best Camera" may be a bit off topic, just because the best camera for an individual is going to depend on factors other than just the quality of the camera; you can start with BUDGET!

However, having looked at a number of lists, I can detect two types of said lists that may have an impact on a person's decision. One type of list is heavily weighted in favor of one brand; six or seven of the top ten will be a particular brand. The other type of list will be distributed more evenly among the major brands. If the list you are looking at has seven Brand X or six Brand Y (particularly is succession) among the top ten, I believe that list is biased. If, on the other the list shows four Brand X, three Brand Y and two Brand Z among the top ten, particularly if no more than two brands are in order (X, Y, Y, X, Z, Y, ?, Z, Y, X = 3, 4, 2,1), I'm inclined to believe the list was compiled by a person or group less biased toward a particular brand. Also note that, if you read my example in order from best down, the winning Brand X actually had fewer models in the top ten than second place Brand Y.

So, if you're looking at a list of the best cameras (in any distinct group) that has the top ten cameras for that group listed in order, don't just look at the top one or two, but look at the overall distribution; you might get a surprise!

But keep in mind the Canon 1DX is approx. $6,800 body only. That's a Big difference between the Nikon D750 or the 5D Mark III.

If you've been using a D7000, getting a D750 would be a very easy transition. Learning the Canon would be like learning cricket after playing baseball all your life. Well, maybe not that bad, but the two cameras are different.

Here's what snapsort has to offer.

And Dpreview.

My buddy has been shooting with a D7000 for a while and recently got the D700. I don't think he has looked back to the D7000 since.
I just changed up from a 50D to a 5D mk iii (thank you to my wife) and I haven't picked up the 50D to shoot with, only to have as backup.

Easy choice. The 750 is newer, has a higher rated sensor, a little cheaper, better all-around camera IMO.If Canon is on your want list, may wait until the Mk IV comes out, but expect to pay more than current models. The Mk lll has a great track record.

My thoughts only....other will disagree. Full frame is great, and I made the jump a year ago, going from the D7000 to the D600. But not sure what I really gained. The pictures are 99% the same. The low-light performance of the D7XXX series just gets better. And the FF lenses are more expensive and heavier.

If I had it to do over again, I might have stayed with the D7000 and upgraded to the D7200 when it comes out. There are reasons to go FF, but better "normal" pictures (reasonable light, etc) isn't really one of them.

But heck. If you just want to, go for it!

Be careful of cheap prices...You may be getting a camera without USA warranty
