I went from a D300 to a D700. Loved the results. Then went to the D800. The improvement in resolution was phenomal. I now use the D800 as my backup camera and the D810 as my prime. You will be amazed at the difference in resolution if you jump to the D800.
You've got a great camera there. Hope you have a speedy and thorough recovery.
I am one if the retired forum members, but there is still much to do every day. I try to never be without a camera. My phone is always with me. It has much higher resolution than my first didital camera. Almost without exception I keep my DSLR in the car.

Great post. Thanks for sharing.
B & H is very good for new and refurbished. For the amount of money you have to spend you will probably only be able to buy one lens for the camera. So get one that suits most of your shooting style.
Formatting cards is probably best done in the camera. That way the card will be identified with the camera model when you download your pics.
For $9.99 per month you can get Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) That will give you both photoshop and lightroom. That way you will always have access to the newest updates on both. I use both programs.
Nice shots. I love Arches Natoional Park. Did you go to Canyonlands while you were there?
Welcome to the forum. I would love to see some of those Africa pics.
Welcome to the UHH. Keep those lenses. Many of them will work on the D7100 as well as on other digital Nikons.
Welcome. I agree with others. Get the SX60.
