A lightning trigger. What won't they think of next? Very nice photo! Your lightning trigger works like a charm.

Actually, I made it sound a bit easier then it is. It works quite well once you figure out all the little nuances of the process. It triggers very quickly but all of the camera settings, exposure, f stop, focus, white balance, etc, have to be preset or the camera's reaction time will be slowed down. Off-camera strikes will trigger it so I had to use a toilet paper tube to fashion a light shield around the sensor. Things like that. Once I got it dialed in it worked fine. By that time the storm was just about past! Next time should be much easier. My viewing area at home is somewhat limited so my plan for next summer is to set up my tripod in the back seat of my pickup, drive to a good viewing area, position the truck and roll down the window.

I haven't logged into Adobe in several weeks and my Elements 12 works fine. Used it twice this morning. No problems.

Here is a totally unedited sunrise shot that I took a while back. I found it interesting. What do you think?

I agree with you about the pole...but what's that hanging from the tree, LFingar? Looks like a piece of clothing??

We were sitting (sprawled actually) on a large lounger with a canopy over it enjoying Happy Hour and the only movement I was making was to wave down the waitress for my next pina colada. As a result, when I took the photo I ended up with a canopy support pole and a piece of the canopy in the shot. Better framing would have prevented that of course, but to tell the truth, moving didn't seem like a priority at that point!! This earlier shot of my wife on the lounger illustrates the situation.

Whether you like Tony or not, his team should provide some great photo ops this season! Just take 3 hotheads, Tony, Kevin, and Kurt, mix them together and then stir in Danica! Should be epic. Gentlemen (and ladies, of course), start your cameras!

Thank you everyone for all the great input. I will research the websites you have all provided and see where I can get the best deal at! Thanks so much. Hopefully I will be posting some great beginner pics soon!

Be sure to check out the customer reviews of the equipment. Most every manufacturer and retail site has them. They can be great sources of info.
Welcome to the Hog.

Sunrise after a long night flight. Colors were kind of washed out in the original photo so I did a saturation with Elements 12.

Quite fitting, actually. The island is very popular with young Japanese couples who are getting married. In the week we were there we saw 10 or 12 weddings just at the resort where we were. The photo was a spur of the moment thing. They didn't speak English. We don't speak Japanese. I just motioned with my camera and they were happy to pose. I love their formal dress and laid back attitude.

Put my camera on a tripod, set up the lightning trigger and sat down in the recliner with a book. A grueling experience! Unfortunately, the wind was blowing the rain onto the window. Hope to get better shots this summer when the snow leaves and the thunderstorms come back. I better start training now. Where did I leave that TV remote......

I suggest you go back to that location and re shoot! Hahaha. It's a nice shot, wish I were there! Maybe rotate to the right 1 degree

Believe me, sitting here looking out light snow I too feel that I should go back and re-shoot. I took about 840 shots while on the island and when I got home I discovered that a good many tilted to the left. I haven't been able to figure out any way to blame it on being below the equator so I have decided to either hold the camera more level or tie a piece of 2x4 to my left sneaker. Now my wife complains about splinters in the carpet!

I love it! Thanks for telling me about "P" and, yes, I think it's early to go beyond auto but not way too early; I do like to push the envelope. I'm still dealing with that fear of pixelation; I love film so much. Digital is only "free" if it doesn't cost anything. Since the manual it came with is in Hebrew I am working with the download which is the size of a Manhattan telephone book. I'm also going to ask you questions from time to time, if you don't mind.
Good shooting,
Moshe

Ask away! Who knows, I may even have a correct answer from time to time!
