While in grade school in the 60s we never did the hide in a shelter or under a desk thing. Maybe someone knew a flimsy wooded desk wasn’t going to save anyone in an atomic bomb blast.

FWIW: My high school has four foot concrete con rock walls. The local warden came by, looked at it and slapped on the Shelter Designation markers.

And why do my seats smell like exhaust?

Not having enough exhaust to create the venturi effect.

I am recalling the effort that went into cleaning the valves at the exhaust point.

This is what I found... did an image search- doesn't appear in this search by image at image.google.com or TinEye etc.

So I looked into detecting AI generated images... found several links.. here is one I did a screen capture of after uploading the image to it. .

to the OP..."Flack"?....

It isn't a photograph, It isn't an illustration... It's computer generated to a level that is getting scary. The old adage : "Don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see" will have to be rewritten --- where you can't believe anything.

Can't argue, she is a pretty and attractive arrangement of pixels!

I was wondering about the proportions showing. Most of the examples I have seen of AI women seemed to show the same waist to hip slope. Would love to see the photos that were used to make the composite.

The question is, is she happy? If spending her money and if she can afford to do it without jeopardizing her future, let her spend it. She can't take it with her after all.

Sorry to see that. It is shifting responsibility for the crime. There is a great chasm betwixt spending her money wisely and throwing it away, just because she can.

She could be made happier to know that she is spending her money on people who really need and can appreciate her for the money.

Word of the Day: Jerry-Built. verb tr.: To build cheaply and sloppily.

When I make anything, it is sturdy and usable. It might not be cosmetically perfect, but it is functional, and it will last forever.

Um, They were talking about the portable gas tank, a ka Jerr-i can.

It can be frustrating, can’t remember a word or term. An hour later you figure it out and reassure your self you won’t do that again. Until the next time. It’s all part of “growing up”.

It is also part of growing older. There is a list of what memory lasts as one grows older. First thing to go is the short term memory. Then the various long term memory. The studies seem to agree that taste memory lasts the longest. I still can remember the chocolate I smelled when I was about 4-5years old. Even now, when it has been almost seventy years ago, I remember standing with my girlfriend, hand in hand, on the bridge over the canal next to that building, sniffing in the air as much as possible. I still can zero in on chocolate within two blocks.

Almost seventy-two years ago I was hiking with a troop of guys in the late spring alongside a road next to a small stream. The fields of buttercups were in bloom wafting their scent of "butter" when I sidestepped into the stream, getting my shoe immersed in the water. I was so embarrassed being one of the youngest member of the group. But I even now recall the smell in the air. I have never smelled such aroma since I moved to the USA seventy years ago.

While surfing through the letters in UHH, my eyes are on the TV set screen showing people who experienced the loss of their people who died in the wars. The show 60 Minutes, the segment "Rise". Those people included mothers, fathers, friends, and children who have suffered unbelievable losses who are facing the internal pains. Natalia said that the pain was almost impossible, but facing their fears of the surrounds made that pain not invincible.

I think that many people around the world experienced this kind of pain from the loss of person who meant something to them being shot dead. The loss of JFK.

It is a worth while piece to view and appreciate. It does give me hope that my relatives might come out stronger from their travail they are facing.

I disagree... Khruschev was the one that averted war, by backing down... Kennedy was the one that was pushing for war.

It really depends on what one read or heard.

The Soviet Union was faltering at that time, just like at the start of WWII. They were bleeding hard cash. But this is another thread, right along the many that crossed each other's paths.

In the attached photo it looks like the tower is leaning a couple of degrees to the right (to me anyway). If I put a grid over the shot, the verticals are straight. I've come across this phenomenon on other occasions -- so is it better to leave the shot alone or correct to overcome what is most likely an optical illusion caused by trees or other elements in the shot?

The "tilt" can be the result of even settling of the building. Our brains are rather quirky when it comes to any alignment since it is dependent on what is viewed in the vicinity of the viewed object. An example popping into mind is the rail that seems to be vertical and yet the ball seems to climb upwards as it rolls on it. The brick line is slightly tilted. But our brains makes it seem to be vertically level to our sight.

One can get trapped in the attempt to level the wobbly table with shaving the table legs.

Best to leave the shot as is when it comes very close to the remembered view.

I was told that there are no buildings that equate their neighbors when it comes to the plumb line.

Happy thanksgiving Jerry a lot of those cops were older back then when they retired they didn’t get paid well and there pensions were low and no social security

Their side line work were as security guards in several businesses like banks, large stores nad the like. I did some work as a security guard to obtain the cash off of tables in large venues. Then I had to do the accounting for the bills used in the activities.

Even after all these years, I still am tempted to break the fingers of the Clemson folks who decided it would be cute to wet stamp the paw prints on the Two Dollar bills. The dollars jammed up the bill counters like crazy.
