I’m strictly a MacBook user because I prefer the comfort and portability. That said, were I you, I would dump the iMac and invest in a large monitor that will pair nicely with your New MacBook Pro. I’ll tell you a story. I was a month away from a photo safari when I was in a photo workshop. My 2014 MacBook was excruciatingly slow. I complained and the woman sitting next to me asked how old it was. I had given absolutely no thought to the fact that it was nearly 10 years old! She told me to get a new computer before I left because it was a question of when not if it would fail. I took her advice. Why? Because she is head of cyber security at a large pharmaceutical company here in Boston.

Its possible that the earlier version may not be compatible with the lenses you might acquire in the future
They may be on a different external drive. Check the source.
Check your source drive for your images. I use two externals where some folders are on one drive but not the other. When I open LrC, I check which external I’ll need to use.
No issues with my MacBook Pro.
I love my Peake Design tripod, which is significant because I don’t like tripods! I also have a Benro carbon fiber tablepod that’s handy and fits in almost any pocket.
How old is your MacBook? This summer, I was talking with a friend and mentioned how slow my MacBook was. She asked me the same question. When I blithely said 2014, she told me I was living on borrowed time. Did I mention that she is head of cybersecurity at a large pharma company? She knew I was going to Africa in a few months and strongly suggested I replace my MacBook before I left… and acquire a ssd external drive to replace my then current external that had moving parts. I did exactly what she told me! Went through the pain of a new computer before my trip so everything worked smoothly for when I got back.
I feel the same way about Hunts Photo and video! In Ma, NH, Maine, Connecticut.
None. I’m delighted with what I have!
Or fix it using the mask feature in LrC. It’s a quick fix and could save a friendship
How old is your computer? My laptop started acting up. Talking about it with a friend, she asked me the same question. That was when I realized it was 10 years old. She told me it was time for a new one before something went terribly wrong. Given that she’s head of cyber security at a major company, I took her advice.
I got a Nexto DI from B&H for a photo safari trip that would do exactly what you want and you can even see tiny previews on the little screen. BUT the 1T model was $620-something, so very pricy. It worked flawlessly and others on the trip were jealous! I do photo trips with some frequency so it was worth the price. Buying a lot of memory cards would be cheaper!
Typically, 32 or 64 but when I went on a photo safari to Tanzania I used some 128 cards.
