Here's some photos from last Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Ellison's great event with 6 countries, Australia, UK, China, USA, France and Japan. Aussies won and the Japanese a close second. The 40' catamarans were only going about 40 mph because the wind topped out at about 18k. In the first two photos, I didn't realize until I saw the photos after that there was a gray whale breaching to the right of the starting line and made a big splash in the second photo. This was my first try at Back Button Focus . . . some day I'll get it!

Here's an interesting one. Locate a Radio Station anywhere in the world and plug into that station. It's great for transplants so you can tune into the city of town you grew up in and listen to what's happening. All the foreign stations have the language of that country.

John - just about the ONLY beginner Sony MILC - is the a5100!!!!

But, Cora-Belle had only been considering the Nikon D5600 (intermediate DX) and the EOS T6 (basic DSLR.)

Ken . . . what lens were you using in those photos??

I estimate that over the years I've made more than 20 trips to Saint Augustine and never have gotten a good photo (at least one I like) of the castle. I think this one is my reward for persistence. Thanks for looking. I used a GND filter on the bottom of the photo to control the bright spotlights on the stone walls.
PLEASE use the download to see the stars

Thanks for looking.

Unbelievable . . I've never seen so many stars in the night sky. I think you captured a couple of other galaxies here. Really dramatic photo.

In 1947, researchers at Dow Chemical found a way to make foamed polystyrene. Polystyrene is a synthetic aromatic hydrocarbon polymer; it is an inexpensive resin per unit weight. Polystyrene was discovered in 1839 by Eduard Simon, an apothecary from Berlin.

In 1954, the Koppers Company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, developed expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam under the trade name Dylite. In 1960, Dart Container, the largest manufacturer of foam cups, shipped their first order.

Some companies, such as coffee retailers and doughnut shops, sell their products in disposable cups. A large chain of doughnut shops can use one billion disposable coffee cups in a year, enough to circle the Earth twice. Several coffee chains now offer discounts for customers who bring along their own cup. McDonald's switched from foam cups to paper cups in 2014.

Folk art covers all forms of visual art. Definitions vary, but generally the objects have practical utility of some kind, rather than being exclusively decorative. The makers of folk art are normally trained within a popular tradition, rather than having a formal education in a fine art.

Dean Lewis, the owner of Old Car City, has been getting a cup of tea every morning, and instead of throwing out the cup, he doodles on the cup through the day creating his own cup art. His styrofoam cup collection now consists of 1500+ cups that each have a unique hand drawn design. This collection is the result of 36 years of creating a new piece of art most every day.

Great photos for the archives for the generations to come. Berkeley Ca banned styrofoam about 15 years ago and here's another partial list

Thanks to everyone who enjoyed the comedy photos... I know the quality is not up to the website's standards but they were screen shots from the originals.

I generally stick to batteries from the camera manufacturer. However, I chanced across a link online to a Duracell battery that is 50% the cost of the manufacturer's battery for one of my cameras. With Duracell being a name brand, I wonder if it’s worth spending the extra money on OEM? Does anyone have any experience with Duracell brand batteries made for cameras, or in general just have thoughts to share?

Thanks!

There is a huge difference from batteries from say Costco and battery store like Batteries Plus Inc. You pay double for their batteries but they last 4 or 5 times longer and I would imagine they have a more durable casing. Check them out . . I think they are Nationwide. Camera Manufactures would also use these batteries.

An owl dangling precariously from a branch has scooped the overall prize of this year's Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards.

Out of the 3,500 entries, Tibor Kercz won the overall prize with his

series of images showing an owl losing its footing and trying to claw

its way back on to a branch. Other entrants included a yawning dormouse, a photobombing sea turtle and a rather shocked seal. Take a look at all the winning photos from the competition.

Tibor Kercz's photo of an undignified owl was the overall winner

A good way to check your calc's is to make sure that each brother gets three times as much as each sister and it appears that everyone except amfoto 1 and Bill Gordon got it wrong. 39 total shares.

Thank you Easter Egg Artist, you're right, for some reason #3 is sharper than #2 . . probably camera movement.
