Thanks, Fred. When you are editing in LR on your laptop screen can you see all of Your LR window and controls and the photo you are editing? I’m concerned the photo will be smaller and more difficult to edit. How have you found editing on a laptop as compared to a desktop Mac?

I am making my Studio 100% portable. My camera is tethered, lighting is now battery powered and all that is left is a laptop.

I want to be able to show a client their pictures as they are being taken, do minor touch-up and give them a digital picture(s) on site if that’s what they want.

I would like to hear from anyone who has moved to portable photo editing on a Mac laptop.
I currently use Capture One Pro and Affinity on an old Macintosh desktop. What laptop did you go with 14” or 16”? M1 or M2? Pro or Max? I’m sure any of them are noticeably faster than my current box. Does a laptop have enough real estate to use for efficient digital editing?

Any comments will be appreciated.

It seems like I remember a video on the internet about building a spot welder from the innards of a microwave. That’s a “two-fer” for you, Jerry. A project that gets rid of a worn out oven and a tool when you’re done.

I think iPads, PC’s and iMacs will always display a photo better than a large-screen TV.

For general viewing everyone brings in a print or a device for viewing their photo. For the Judging all the photos can be uploaded to a host site and then viewed by the Judges on a single large computer screen.

Which is preferable, tack-sharp or a little soft? It depends on what you were trying to capture. The competition results can easily be explained by a difference in taste between you and the Judges.

That is a beautiful shot of a very nice location. My mother was from Goldthwaite, also Hill Country, very close to San Saba where Tommy Lee Jones (Men in Black) came from. I remember it being dry…and hot in 1960 when I was a kid.

I see nothing in focus front to back below her chin. Did you use a shallow DOF and some coating on a portion the lens? She has a beautiful face and the lighting is perfect.

I believe Ducks and or Geese cannot process white bread as food. They eat it. It fills them up, but they get no nutrients from it. If they stay in one place long enough and eat enough bread they can starve. I’m no expert, but I have heard this.

Wonderful shots. The only thing missing is your “pocket protector”. The last POR I saw in Houghton for was 2020 0r 2021 (I can’t remember if Covid shut things down). They ran the Press Stage on Lake Avenue between Franklin Square and the Lift Bridge. Toss in a few chicanes and you have some nice action but at low speed. I have some pictures if I can find them. Good times.

Ha! That was my favorite bar followed closely by the Isle Royale, the Dog House (pickled HB eggs), the Ambassador and the B&B (more pickled eggs). I spent WAY too much time in the Library! Got to know Jon Davis pretty well and he got me interested in the POR Rally. Beer by the pitcher. Egg Carton and Barn Wood wall coverings. Epicurians. Pizza Buffet. Chili at Carnival.
