This is an exterior view of the abandoned iron ore loading pier in Marquette, Michigan taken 26 years ago. The pier looked like it had been abandoned for at least a decade prior to that. I climbed inside and took several pictures, one of which I have posted here previously. The pier still exists but all of the wooden structure and train rails are gone. You can find it on Google Earth. It has special meaning for me because I well remember dragging my heavy tripod and 4x5 gear thru the weeds and rotted wooden parts, scaring up several rats, to get into the concrete portion to photograph. Couldn't do that now if my life depended on it.
I made a two-image panorama of the 4x5 negative which resulted in a 272 mb 23 x 26 inch image I edited in Photoshop. I plan to have a 16 x 20 version of it printed soon by a good friend who has a professional quality Epson printer.
I really like this image because of the foreground.

Looks like a B&W section, or Photo Gallery entry?

Oops, it was supposed to be in the Photo Gallery. Can it be changed?

Took me a minute to understand it but that is one cool shot.

Thanks Bill_de. Glad you like the image. I did exactly what you suggested, we'll see if it gets moved.

Thanks Jack, I've got a few more of this structure that I might post at a later date. I was shooting 4x5 back then and I'm still amazed at how much detail those negs contain.

I saw this structure when I first visited Marquette in 2015. Had no idea what it was and what it was there for.
Nice photo.
Beautifully done, Jack, great perspective and composition.

This is an exterior view of the abandoned iron ore... (

I'm surprised that you could get near it let alone on it and in it, even 26 years ago.
Great lines, Jack! Geometry abounds.
