Gorgeous photos. I have always heard that ST. Petersburg is a beautiful city. Your photos are testimony to that beauty. Thanks for sharing.

I went to check on the Eagle nest a few months ago and the hurricane had taken it out. I went back the other day to see if there was any activity, I found that the eagles had built another nest only in another tree further back. Examination of the nest showed two eaglets along with their parents. I understand the nest is back in the original tree where they were first discovered 80 years ago. They have been nesting here for over 80 years.

I worked for the federal government starting in 1974, which was under the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS). The biggest drawback is that I have paid into SS for years also and cannot get that money back.

I also worked for the federal government beginning in 1974 and I retired in 2010. As a CSRS employee, I did not contribute to social security but contributed 7 % of my pay to the CSRS pension plan. I also have paid into social security for years of part time and self employment income.

I have also signed up for and I am receiving a small security award every month. My social security award is reduced by 50% because I am considered a “double dipper”. The award is still sufficient to pay for my Medicare premiums.

You might want to schedule a meeting with social security to see if you are entitled to a monthly benefit. If you have fourth quarters, I see no reason why you should not receive a monthly social security benefit.

I have the long-awaited opportunity to visit Monument Valley, and possibly Antelope Canyon in Page Arizona. I will be attending an event in Phoenix, at the completion, I will have from January 1-7 to explore the area. I plan on traveling to Monument Valley on January 1 where I'll be stationed until my departure from Phoenix on January 7.

I'm aware of Antelope Canyon from all the breath-taking images I've seen over the years. Looking for advice on any similar place to photograph during my stay in the area. I've researched both the Goulding and The View hotels and trying to determine which would be more be rewarding photographically. Goulding seems to be less expensive at this time, but The View appears to offer the greater view of the monuments. I would appreciate any advice on the hotel choice and photo ops.

For equipment, I'll be trying out my recently acquired Nikon D850, and taking the D500 as a back-up.

Thanks in advance
I have the long-awaited opportunity to visit Monum... (show quote)

Good morning.

I’ve been to Monument Valley twice. It is a truly amazing place to visit. IMHO, words and even photos cannot do full justice to the majesty of Monument Valley.

Both times I visited, I stayed at Gouldings Lodge (the View was not open at the time). I had no issues with my stays at Gouldings. I was able to arrange a tour of the valley with Native American guides through Gouldings which was the way to go for me.

I highly recommend staying as close to the valley as possible. Traveling fro Medicine Hat or other nearby areas adds needless time that can be used to tour the valley.

Enjoy your visit to Monument Valley. It is truly a special place.

I have attached two photos to my response. The first is a photo of Gouldings Lodge. The second is of John Ford’s Point which is a must see location in the Valley.

I saw this one in Utah's Canyon Land National Park. According to the Park Ranger it is rare to see one that close, they are very shy.

Magnificent photos. Photo #3 is off the charts.

If I may ask, how close were you to the animal?

Of these photographs taken of the Tetons from Jackson Lake, the first two images were taken from Signal Mountain Lodge and the third image was taken the following night from the Jackson Lake Dam. (The pano is best viewed on download.)

Stunning photos. It’s hard to choose a favorite but if pressed, I would have to go with photo # 2. Postcard quality photo IMHO.

The Grand Tetons and Jackson hole are spectacular examples of Mother Nature at her best.
