Lets be realistic you're looking at $20,000 for a decent system, you can assemble a full-frame system for 40% of the price:

Sony aA7RIII - $2598
Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM Lens - $2198
Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lens - $2598
Sony FE 2.0x Teleconverter - $548

This is not an exact comparison either, most of the Fuji lenses are f3.2 (35mm equivalent).
I think the medium format market needs to mature and Fuji is making tremendous strides leaving Leica,Hssselblad etc in the dust.

and that question was valid. In the early days of digital I established that 6mp was roughly equivalent to what Kodachrome 25 was giving me; 24mp gives me much more detail.

And for the people who used to shoot large format, 24 mp does not cut it.
Been waiting 30 years for digital equivalent

Some dream of 12 mega pixels
some dream of 100 mega pixels
Many can handle 12
Few can handle 100
But for those who can and are willing to try in the name of art
Who are you to judge
Embrace art
Embrace life
Embrace bravery
Embrace compassion
Embrace technology
For it is here now.

I've taken some great shots, even some I display, with a 5.1MP point-and-shoot. I have gotten a few real 'keepers' with a smartphone at 13 or more MP. I mostly use the Nikon D810 at about 32MP, with 5 lenses, and I get a few keepers using that.

So, MP ismnot the most important thing. And I never found my in want of more pixels. When I shot film, I routinely made 20x30-inch prints. I can do that with about 24 MP. Who the hell is going to make prints larger than 20x30? Well, Whoever they are, they will need more MPs.

But let's be serious, except in a studio, or for still-life work, you actually need only about 24 MP.

But the typical car is maybe 150-200 horsepower today...that my very well relate to a 10 or 12mp camera...

Yes I understand that comparison it is much obvious
But the twist I am putting on that analogy is some one in public taking a 100 mega pic at full res hurts no one
But a 800 hp hellcat in public opened up endangers everyone.

Look around you.most people on this web site are pixel chasers! 12 was awesome then 16 then 20 then 24 now what 35-47! 90 percent of people don’t need over 16-20 mega pixels. Good photographers will continue to make wonderful photos with 16-20 pixels. The rest? Just continue to chase them pixels

Some like to print there images large it does not mean they are all pixel peepers
And yes more mp mean cleaner print with much better color depth.

A cellphone costs 1000 dollars these days!! They have more computing power then lunar landings had who needs it right?
You could say no one, but millions own them!
Some people like tech and it is being brought to us and many want to push those limits.
Those who compare a 800 horse power car to a high mp camera is way off base, a camera is much less dangerous and much less expensive.
12 mp ? Come on really that’s so yesterday

Ah, I see … so you'd actually watch it on the screen of the GFX - rather than on TV … zat what you mean?

Hey, listen - if I could spare ten grand, I'd put myself on the waiting list for the Fuji GFX100S .. no sweat!

I hear you !
I imagine my sigma 40mm art would sing on that body

On the value of a 100MP GFX vs. 100MP Hassy? … You'll get no argument from me THERE, Karno …

But, please DO answer the last part - k?

For sure!
In my satirical world I would have the best of both worlds, for instance the ability to watch GOT on a GFX 100 in 16 bit.
Point being, I am more then happy with DSLR but also welcome new tech.

Ah, I see … well, I don't HAVE HBO, Karno … as I don't believe in paying for something you can get free!

But, I was aware of the Game of Thrones as a video game - just didn't know it was now a TV show, too.

Yes - the only thing I fully understood in the entire thing, Karno - is your reference to the fine Fuji GFX line of MF MILCs. The 50S … is a little too heavy for me, pricewise, at $6500 (same price as the D5) but, anyone considering the D5 - would be NUTS not to consider the 50S instead. But, I have been looking longingly at the 50R … which, I believe - is more attainable (for me) and, of course, if price is no object - go for the 100MP version, when it's available - why not? … It's only ten grand. A 100MP Hassy would cost you 5 or 6 TIMES that much!!!! … But, tell me - how does watching this show on HBO - become more entertaining, looking at it through the EVF of a GFX, Karno? Tell us … we ALL want to know ….
