Commercial product and fashion photography mostly. Hard to justify the expense otherwise.

If the end product is TV or magazine, 10 MP is more than enough.

I case you want to make a print that can be viewed from the moon.
They're fantastic and fantastically expensive. I'm experimenting with a 200+ MP image system, but it has limitations. However,, a lot less expensive than what's out there now. The other downside is that I've produced an image too large for PS to handle.

I think your sd card would have to be the size of a paperback.
If you can afford the camera you can afford the accessories...๐

I don't know. If you look, both Nikon's and Canon's professional level cameras are 20mp.
You can likely build a very high resolution large coverage camera or imaging system if you have the funding. The physical size, processing power and data flow are the issues that can be overcome with dollars.
Back in the โ97ish timeframe there was a satellite imaging system being removed from military service that my organization was tasked to try to find commercial applications for its continued use. We came up with a few ideas but nothing cost effective.
That system IIRC could image a 30x30 kilometer area with a resolution down to 150mm. You could pick out the tops of telephone poles. So you can only imagine what replaced it and is available today.
Even the SR71 Blackbird could photograph 100,000 square miles an hour. And that was technology that is over 60 years old. But not something you can handhold...๐
The pro series cameras are built for FPS and low light...when getting the shot counts. The are also built for rough use environments. 20mp is sufficient for the online or print use their images will be used in. They will probably get more resolution as data storage and processing becomes faster but the former requirements are what drives these bodies.

They have been around for years and years, also 200mp and 400mp cameras. They pretty much eliminate the limits that are given by lower resolution cameras and the following postprocessing. But for the utmost quality and detail, most pros still rely on the good old film!

Well, the new Fuji is super cheap though, absolutely nothing to justify!
