I was at the Jefferson Memorial in Washington and discovered that my card was at home. No blank cards to be had at the gift shop and no other stores within site. I ended up paying like $30 for a card containing stock images which had about 8gb available. Good stock images though. After that the camera was upgraded so I now have two SD cards in the camera at all times and I carry extras.

Wish I could help. I took a class offered on that subject last year (among other winter photography targets - snow, ice, etc.) Problem was 60 degrees in chicago, one of the warmest winters ever. Got some great shots of sunset over a partially frozen lake waterline though.

Have to to with the Costa Rica suggestion.

Best camera in the world is the one I currently own. Why? Its mine, does what I need and know how to use it.

I agree fully and to add to your description, at least in my case, it is paid for!! Should have read Bill's comment first

For me it depends on where I am going and what I anticipate to see. The 200-500 mounted on a camera is carried in an apecase and I had hold the other camera or use a single camera bag. When the 200-500 is needed it comes out and the second camera goes into the ape case for storage. Anything big enough to hold the 200-500 will work.

If I need additional lenses with me, I have a nikon case that holds the camera plus two small lenses that I will carry in addition to the apecase. I really hate to carry that much weight and bulk for any extended period though.

NIkon had one of the first digital cameras on the market. I purchased that for a trip to Disney with the family. Worked well so when it was time to upgrade to DSLR just stuck with Nikon. Now that I have a reasonable investment in associated equipment I do not see going back. I have owned a few of them and have had only on issue which needed repair. Bought my daughter a D40 when she went away to journalism school. Bought other daughter and my self D60s when they came out. Night before daughter with D40 was leaving for Europe, it decided it should always use flash. D40 stayed and was repaired, D60 went to Europe. Never did get the D60 back.....

I have two of them upgraded from a very old D40. First one purchased new and second used. Great camera and have never had an issue that was not operator generated. Bought the second one after I purchased a 200-500 tele lens and decided it was easier to have it permanently installed then trying to switch quickly. Usually carry both on my excursions. Good luck with your choice.

I also followed directions and ended with one camera out of focus for most of the eclipse - first 10 minutes were great though. I guess camera was bumped or something. Looked the same on Live View as the initial good ones but I did not move the pictures to my ipad to verify - I also do not see well using the Live View screen and that is an issue.

Good news is the other camera did work - albeit under exposed but that can be fixed. Favorite shot came during totality where I missed most of the corona but got a really sharp picture of the very near corona and solar flares.

I figure this was the practice, 2024 will be the test and 2099 will be a perfect shoot (oh wait I will miss that one but will have a good excuse)

Me too. I love his records especially the old Junior Wells ones.
He has so much energy still it's hard to believe he's 80 years old!

He turned 81 last weekend. My favorite performer. If you get a chance to see a show do so. He does a couple of hundred of them each year.

Great shots by the way!!

I am sorry to hear that. I tried cutting and pasting and it worked.

Let's try again. https://youtu.be/Q5qO-ptIFJM

Hopefully this one will work. The camera that was not the Panasonic was the widest angle, it is a gopro04

THank you for your interest.

For your reference. Two of the three cameras on this were the Panasonics.

Two cameras are really not that bad. The video camera I use is small, does not weigh much and fits in a lens holder area of most bags. While not professional level, it does a great job with very little assistance from the operator. New $699 used $549 from B&H. Have been using a pair of these for 6 years and can not remember any issues. Panasonic HC-X920 3MOS Ultrafine Full HD Camcorder Depending on what is being shot, I would recommend a microphone but the in camera one works but an external one allows better control over wind noise.

Thank you for the information. I am planning to use two cameras. One with a 500mm zoom the other a 24 -120 zoom usable as a makeshift wide angle during the full eclipse. Planning on keeping the limited use filters as photographing the sun facinates me. Thank you again
