It's a military jet breaking the sound barrier. We see this all the time as military jets do their maneuvers over Lake Superior. You are fortunate to have captured this.

It's actually a fairly common occurence. It's a air pressure wave caused by a jet fighter breaking the sound barrier. The trailing edge actually causses its own "weather"

Could be a supersonic aircraft jumping from sub sonic to sonic speed... Were the two photos shot in rapid succession? Any military installations nearby?
