Hello! I don't know anything, about post processing, and I just purchased Lightroom 6, (not CC,) and am ready to install it, on my computer.
I've got a book, by Scott Kelby, he states, that before
you should install Lightroom 6, you need to take ALL of your Images, and Sort them, into Individual Folders, and Classify them, by their Categories and Types!
THIS WOULD TAKE ME, FOREVER!
He states, that this is the only way, to properly begin to use Lightroom 6. (That it will pay off so much, in the long run.)
(He does not give, any alternate way, to set up LIGHTROOM 6, in the book.)
All of my images, are now in folders, by their dates, that they were shot, and I would like to keep them that way!
I'm trying to learn, how to initially start off, with Lightroom 6, on my computer. What do I need to do? With all of my folders of images? To get them into LIGHTROOM 6, successfully?

Also, I've heard something, about people, converting, their original, RAW images, into .dng files, to be used in LIGHTROOM, for some reason? Why, do they do this? And, how is it done? And, what do you do, with all of the original RAW files, after the .dng conversion?
Thanks, very much, for your help! Rob.
