lenses:
28-300 1.35-56g
and 16-35 1.4g
which I thought was a good match at the time two yrs ago.
The same retailer where I purchased these now says I am wasting my money. Says 18-300 D format would be better for me as one lens.
My unhappiness with results is likely more related to autofocus issues which are currently above my expertise. I have studied the manual and still confused.
Bill ... Thanks for your comment.

Many professionals have said I am wasting my $'s with having two full frame zooms for a D-500 D format.
Am considering selling the two lenses for one D, maybe an 18-300 zoom.
Is it a waste?
Or should I replace the body instead with an 850?
Ideas?

You missed my point.
Android is generally better than apple.

I agree. Better to have a smartphone than no camera at all.
My point was that android smarts (eg Kyocera, Google, Motorola etc) have generally better quality than apples. And more apps (exception is face). Quality of hardware also seems to be better than apple. Not sure why because all of them are made in Asia. Although "assembled" means something and keeps some of the profits here in the U.S.
When I do not wish to carry my heavy D500 with a 300 mm zoom (also heavy), I have a shirtpocket Leica with a normal zoom that is far superior quality than an iPhone with a non-zoom lens half the size of a pea.
As most everyone on this site probably knows, it is not the megapixels that count, but the quality of the glass. My DSLR with the lens the size of a tomato has about 25 pix unpushed, most smartphones are less than half of that pix with a pea lens. Technologically, it is fairly simple.
The politics of apple is another matter, but I will refrain from that.
Thanks for listening. This site has been very informational for me.

I have boycotted Apple for decades and get along just fine.

Why an iphone ??? Most androids have better camera lenses if you must use a phone to take a photo.

I have had a D500 for 4 years and quite happy.
However, I STILL have difficulty with autofocus.
Are there any tricks for this amateur?
Thanks.

LG and Samsung come out of the same factory. While different corporations, same product result. South Korea, government owned. Just different branding.
Think of it as Buick and Chevy as we know such in the US; same company with marketing differences.

Not Tamron if you want good clear quality.
The Nikkor 16-85 should work well for packing just one lens.
I have been on about 15 cruises and my normal zoom (35-85) has been sufficient.
I miss my 18-300 which I traded (big mistake).
Have fun.

I agree!
Weight is a factor of the lens, not the body.
Most bodies are close in weight ..... lenses quite a difference. My two FF zoom lenses are quite heavy.
Thanks for your comments.

I agree.
Olympus "weather" cameras are the best.
Your comment that the new buyers carry on is hopeful.

You took my comments wrong and read-in too much negativity; sorry ! I was not being critical of the Olympus products or quality.
My point was Panasonic is price-sensitive and makes an acceptable product for the masses at lower prices. One camera mag article called it the "Sears" of cameras. Exactly the opposite of Leica (said to be the "Mercedes" of cameras) which probably makes the best cameras in the world, but many cannot afford such, as well as a limited supply of lenses.
(As a fyi aside, I have owned several Nikons for 51 years (going back to the FTN I bought in Switzerland in 1970), currently have a D90 (no longer using), D3, and a D500 with two very heavy full-frame zoom lenses. Many of my friends as pros and semi-pros seem to prefer Canon, no prob. It's like Ford and Chevy.... once you develop brand loyalty you keep it.)
Summary as my opinion: Olympus is just fine (I actually have a TG for the beach. I also have a Leica CX "shirtpocket" for dinner parties). Panasonic is not designed or meant for pros or semi-pros.
Sir, you do not need to agree or disagree .... no response necessary. This site is meant to be informational, not causing conflict. JP.

Great suggestion.
The Canon is mostly metal (as is Nikon), the Olympus is mostly plastic. Hence the weight differential.
If weight is really an issue, go with the also much cheaper Panasonic/ Lumix; however I do not recommend because of the unsatisfactory flimsy construction and poorer glass. As weight (and size) goes, Canon, Nikon, Leica, Sony all have superior "shirtpocket" models .... details to numerous to mention here. Quality, weight, size are all considerations .... so prioritize.
