From the left nippers, have no idea what the second one is, spade bit and what we called a fence hammer. I really like the shot. The tools and background combine to make a very pleasing picture.

The second one appears to be a sawset.

Lovely colors.

Thanks. The sight that made me drop what I was doing and grab the camera was the outside light shining through the flower. Of course, you can't really tell that from the photo, but I think it informs the colors.

Purdy cattleya. I like the shot! Did you check it out for fragrance? Some are out of this world fragrant!

It would be hard to miss. It's a pleasure stepping onto the front porch the last few days. My wife's the orchid grower, so I'll take your word on the genus. Thanks for looking!

How beautiful, Hugh! Your wife is certainly an expert!

Thanks! My wife claims the secret is picking the ones that are easy to grow. Cymbidiums are the most forgiving. It helps that we have a mild climate.

My wife raises orchids. When they've done blooming for a while, she puts them on our (enclosed) front porch to 'rest' for a while. This one didn't know it was supposed to be resting.

Thanks haven't figured out yet what i'm doing i,m leaning toward lens upgrade , something that will work with a new body down the road a bit. my brother has a 5D mark 3 that he is not using which he is letting me use. First impression boy that thing is heavy to be carrying around in the woods , but I like a lot of bells and whistles but a lot of those on the mark 3 don't think i will ever use , but I like the idea that they are there if I need them later, but for now new EF glass is what thinking Thanks

EF lenses are the way to go if you think you'll upgrade to full-frame. I always thought I would do so someday, but as you noted, FF cameras are a lot heavier. I'm not getting any younger. One pro landscape photographer I know uses a 5D for most of his work, but when he goes on a multi-day hike, he carries a crop-sensor just because of the weight savings. Unlike me, he's a relatively young guy.

FF cameras are better in low-light situations than crop-sensors, as they tend to have physically larger pixels in the sensor. Pros tend to use FF, so they are often more robustly built, have better weather sealing, and have some specialized features you may or may not care about.

Ok a little history, many years ago I had a black and white dark room in my basement loved Black and white.. had an old Canon A-1 ,sold the house and moved. lost interest. after an ugly divorce went out and bought a Canon digital rebel XSI/450D which i have now. I now have new interest, but not sure the 450D is gonna cut it for landscape and other photography. i need good to excellent results as i am just a hobbyist. My question is if i get a new camara What should i get??? Cost might be a factor to a point $1000.00 or less. my 450D uses EF-S lenses.Thanking you in advance. New here just joined less than a month ago.
Thanks br Ok a little history, many years ago I ha... (show quote)

I shoot with an XSi, since 2008. I am always thinking of upgrading, but haven't yet. When I upgrade, I will stay with Canon crop-sensor, because most of my lenses are EF-S. I drool over the 90D, but at $1200+ it's still out of my range. The 77d or 80d are both in your price range and you can probably get them for considerably less used or refurbished. There are pluses and minuses to each, so compare the specs. Both are 24 MP, where your XSi is 12 MP.

Unless you're making really big prints, you can still make excellent landscapes with your XSi. You might look to your glass first. To me, the biggest limitation of the XSi is its low-light performance. Push the ISO past 400 and it gets noisy fast. If you're shooting landscapes you probably want a good tripod anyway.

Well I'll be. My wife and I have called them passion flowers for years. Now we know.

Thanks everybody, both for looking and for the new (to me) information!

A fence in our yard used to have roses and passion flowers, but mostly it has been consumed by a potato vine. Imagine my surprise when I found the passion flower in bloom in spite of the potato vine.

Thank you, Dixiegirl. I really like these roses, and the yellow center seems to pop more in real life than it does in my photos.

I no longer remember what variety of rose this is, but it's a very old variety. This time of year the vine is full of big flat blossoms. Today the wind is doing a number on them, but a few days ago they were in their glory. The blossom shown here is almost five inches across.
