In California, of all places, where the concept of being "politically correct" originated, I encountered this fellow and his twin -- positioned behind a heavily-guarded, card-entry-required driveway gate, where signs on the fence boldly proclaim "Patrolled by Guard Dogs" and visitors are unwelcome.

I bought one of these ball heads for my Vanguard tripod. I love the action, stability and build of this unit. What I don't like is the fact that it does not have a quicker release from the tripod. I also have a pistol grip head that has a nice quick release to it, but it was not as stable as I wanted.

Is there a ball head that has both quick release and stability, or is there an adapter that I can get to get a better (quicker) release?

Look at the Manfrotto lineup....good stuff! I have the Manfrotto 323 RC2 System Quick Release Adapter with 200PL-14 Plate.

I'm looking for advice on how to do better next time. I know they are bad .. I do not want to edit them. I simply want to keep a couple of the 50 I took so I can look back and hopefully laugh someday.

These are two of my best ones ...

How do you focus on something that isn't there yet and will only last for seconds? and it's in the dark ...

Was I close on the settings?

Canon 6D
Canon 50mm F1.8
Hand held

Please look at the fireworks I shot here: www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-225155-1.html

The settings are listed. For focusing, it is suggested that you put the lens at infinity, and then back "just a little".

All comments regarding using a tripod and remote cable release are correct...they are a must since you are shooting for 5-15 seconds! Also, it seems you have only the prime lens? You probably want to invest in a zoom in the range of 35-70 or so to get the best shots, plus they are great walkaround lenses!

With a name like that, I'm sure the other bugs keep their distance. Nice shots.

Don't they have quite an ugly bite? Seem to remember a friend that got bit and his foot swelled up double.

Not sure about the bite....but then my lens was protecting me!

Great series. As already mentioned, I'm partial to #2 of this group.

Thanks.....everyone says #2 is best, and I do like it. I really thought #1 would be the one with the red berry and the nice Bokeh off of it......but I guess its just a distraction.
