If you had transparent paper around your "gold Nikon box", I would suggest that it has been tampered with! Over the years I have had 15 various Nikon bodies and about 35 Nikkor lenses. All bought new and never Had transparent paper abound any of them.

Years ago when you purchased mail order (from trusted sellers) they didn't even bother to use transparent paper- I even called about the unsealed boxes and the sellers assured me that's how the factory sends them.
