My first trip up Mount Evans was in a pickup truck, in July. We packed a picnic lunch in a cooler, in the bed of the truck. We arrived at the parking lot at the top, just as a storm arrived. What an experience! At that altitude, you are in the storm. We had our picnic, reaching through the back window and fishing items out of the cooler, while getting pelted by marble sized hail. It was one way to learn the lesson, that any high altitude trips are best done in the morning.

Ha! I can relate. We had a snow squeal while up there. Thankfully it didn’t last long. Thanks for sharing!

Breathing was a little more labored. But for me, I didn’t like the switchbacks.

Thanks for the info. I will have to check it out sometime.

I recently went to Mt Evans Colorado, outside Idaho Springs. Mt Evans is the second highest paved road in the world at over 14,000 ft! Late June, the babies are usually out such as Mountain Goat kids and Big Horn Sheep lambs.

For the most part, the animals don't care about humans. They just go about their business eating the clover and dirt (for minerals).

It can be 30 degrees or more difference in temperature from the bottom of the mountain to the top. If you go, remember a warm coat. Don't forget to bring water and sunscreen.

Highly recommended during the summer.

I have both cameras and I prefer the 5d at low light especially early morning birding. The 7d is great when there is sufficient light.

Very nice. I like how the tree is not bisecting the head. And the head is against an off-white to set it apart.

Females tend to be harder to photograph or maybe blend in more. Nice catch.

I was there last Oct with a small group. We arrived well over an hour before sunrise and were the only ones there for a bit. Then it was like your second shot :)

Great photo
