I would go for the fast glass. 600mm is nice, but how often do you really need that much reach? I personally would use the extra f/stops more often than the extra mm's.

Used the 120-300 on a couple occasions. Love the lens and am willing to put up with the weight. It gets heavy but well worth it.

If you had a choice between two specific lens for a variety of photography opportunities would you choose better glass or greater reach? The Sigma 120-300 F2.8 with OS and converter or the Sigma 150-600 F5-6.3, your choice and why?

I've been a member of the San Diego Zoo and the Safari Park for the last three years. Between the two parks I make about 10 trips a year. Until last Friday all those trips were made with a Nikon D7000 with a 55-300mm lens. In all those trips nobody else with a camera has ever asked me a photography related question. On Friday I go to the Safari Park to shoot photos of the lion cubs with my new Sigma 150-600 Sport and Nikon D3 mounted on a tripod with gimbal mount (read big rig). Not ten minutes after setting up I have people asking me all kinds of questions from what aperture should I use on this shot (that depends) to how much did you pay for that lens (more than I could afford) to how come my camera isn't working (turned out it was a bad memory card). That's never happened to me before. It was a little strange but flattering at the same time.

How do like the new setup? Just recently purchased a wonderful slightly used D3 and am looking to upgrade a telephoto. Have been renting a Sigma 120-300 2.8. Wonderful lense but what a workout! Lugged that puppy around the Circuits of America race track for the Formula One race last October. Was ready to put it down after three days of walking around a 3.4 mile track. By the way ... Is that your Mustang?

Proof positive that not all automobiles were designed by the guy who came up with the Nabisco cracker box! Cars used to have style and they were usually a reflection of the owner. Wish we could get back to that kind of thinking. You can hardly tell one car from another today. Sad for a car guy.

Fantastic shots Regis. I would be greatful just to see an eagle in the wild! Was wondering why the use of a high ISO? Conditions very overcast?

You're probably out there using it right now, but, what did Santa leave you this year under the tree?

I must have been a lot better than I thought I had as Santa brought me a mint Nikon D3 with less than 3,000 actuations, 2 C F cards and a nifty 50 to replace the only DX lens in my bag!

D43....

Lived over by Old Hickory Lake for 16 years but have been in Brookstone for the last 8. Finally talked my wife into downsizing! As far a photography is concerned I have been taking pictures since 1976 when I purchased an Olympus OM-1, which I still own. Well that and a N90S, F5 and my current D80. Been looking for a good used D3. I go in spurts. Like to photograph car shows, racing and wildlife. The wife wishes I would take more pictures of the grandkids. Didn't know about the photography club. Sounds interesting.

Any body know what these are?

Not sure about the first but the second looks like a Morgan. Only company I know that makes a full bodied three wheeler like that.

Very nice set James. I pass the park every day on my way to work but had never stopped until earlier this year. It only took me 24 years until curiosity got the best of me. A great place to walk and reflect and put your troubles behind. As for the deer ... They remind me of Bellemeade deer, they know you will be shot before they will!

We still have Dury's downtown Nashville. Carry a pretty wide variety of equipment camera wise and Sigma lens. They carry a lot of accessories as well as lighting equipment. Guess we are still pretty fortunate to have them. Been in business a long time.

Flat broke. That describes me after buying the camera and lens. I used to spend all my money replacing lost golf balls until my back went all to hell on me. So I put away the clubs and got serious about photography. I used to think golf was expensive. Boy was I wrong. Thanks for the compliment and keep saving your pennies and before you know it you'll have your D3.

Wish that was true but I am in the middle of refurbishing one of my 1932 Fords. Think the D3 will have to wait a while.

I finally bit the bullet and went full frame. After much thought and manipulation of funds, I went with a used Nikon D3 and a 24-70mm 2.8 lens. So far I really like the camera and lens. Any and all critique is welcome.

Wonderful pictures! Great colors. Have been lusting for a D3 for the last 6 months. Want to pull the trigger but too many expensive hobbies.
