OK you knowledgeable Hoggers. I'm adding to my arsenal a FF Canon, and would like to know your opinions which I would be better going with, the 5D MKII or the 6D. A used 5D MKII is about $1250. in mint condition with low shutter count and the 6D is comparable. These are within my budget, however, I would love to have the 5D MKIII but just can't swing it at this time.

I have read reviews, articles and video's until I'm blue in the face, so some advice please. Thanks.

Jake brake,
I decided this year to take advantage of Ritz Camera's Canon Promo which I seen on CPW (canonpricewatch.com). CPW said it's the same promo offered by B&H last year. Pkg was a USA 6D body + 32gb SD + Pixma Pro-10 ptr. After $499 promo discount, $350 mail-in rebate, and ptr sale of $305, I paid $950 for the body & card.
I have a 50D 6fps & the trusty EF70-200 f2.8 that served me well for my grandsons sports shooting. I wanted to upgrade primarily for lo lite stuff. I could not justify the 5Dxx price range for my use.

I bought one on Craigslist for $125. Can you say STEAL!!!!!

Can't beat that ! Was that a Pro-10 or Pro-100 ?
I have it on Ebay where there are quite a few from camera specials. I had a BUY IT NOW of 325 (lower than almost all of the new ones) and started at $99. I thought I might have a problem, but it will sell for at least 305 in a few hrs. That will bring my 6D down to around $950.

I shoot raw & never use AUTO WB. I use a Colorite brand expodisc (hung around my neck) to set custom WB one time for the time period I'm shooting outdoors. Also set it once for indoor no flash or indoor flash, or strobes. I sometimes have a problem with mixed light, but if you can't avoid it, there is no easy fix. I used to forget when I last set it, but now it's the 1st thing I think about when I shoot. If I need to tweak it, I just do it in LR after the fact, and sync it to all the rest in the shoot.

I tried this several years ago shooting my grandsons baseball games. Took a couple of games to get accustomed to using my right eye for the viewfinder but this way it's much easier to be aware of everything and shift to un-expected action. Use it all the time now.

I purchased one with a 6D in December and was able to sell it on ebay for $300 and the buyer provided the shipping label, I sold it in a couple of days, had I held out longer I may have been able to get more but I felt that it was a fair offer.

I have it on Ebay (quite a few from promos) and priced it BUY IT NOW for 325 and a reserve of 290. Have 5 bidders with 1 day to go.
Have you lived in Daytona very long? I worked for GE Apollo Systems (Huntsville satellite mtg facility) in a building complex across from the raceway back in the late 60's.

That's a very nice printer. I, too, was seduced by the rebate offer. Shipping cost could be hefty.

I wonder if there's a 20lb barbell in it !

I just purchased a Canon USA pkg, 6D body+Pixma Pro-10 ptr, from Ritz Camera. I already have an Epson ptr and will sell Pro-10 for $300+shipping (negotiable). Weight is a hefty 40lbs. Only thing missing will be UPC label which I need for rebate. 50 sheet pkg of Canon 13x19 semi-gloss paper included. Prefer PayPal

I joined canon price watch and got an email from them. I am looking to buy the 6d in the email it said there is a reputable canon dealer selling the 6d for 1279.00 with the us warranty. Has any one ever bought equipment from canon price watch .com and what was your results. Thank you for your comments. :? :?

Al,
I decided to take advantage of the special from Ritz which I saw on CPW. 6D body (US warranty) + Pixma pro-10 + 32G SD card + a Canon bag for $1247 after the instant rebate & mail-in rebate. They say this is same offer at B&H last Black Friday. I will be selling the printer (list price $699) and there are already a few showing up on Ebay. If you scroll down you will see it and active until 3/28. Ritz is an authorized Canon dealer.

Hi, Folks

I am starting this thread to share ideas for removing haze from photos in PSE10. I currently have two methods:
1. The clarity slider in ACR.
2. The steps described in Photoshop Elements Techniques March/April 2011 edition.

Below is an exzmple using 2. I'd like to learn how to do better.

Mtnman,
You might want to visit DXO.com and look at DXO OPTICS Pro software video and pay attention to DXO Clearview. I tried free trial and ended up buying it primarily for the PRIME denoising, it's pretty amazing . Your thumbnail was too small to use. If you download it with STORE ORIGINAL checked, I would see what CLEARVIEW could do with it. I don't have a good candidate to show before/after.

I would suggest Whitehouse Color for all your printing needs.
Walgreens CVS pale by comparison.
WC is phenomenal and nails the color every time.

They will allow you to upload 5 jpg of your choice and they will send you 5, 8x10's FREE. They also include samples of the papers available for printing. I was so impressed with the whole process. When I order, the prints reach me in 2 days.
Then when you place an order of $12 or more, the shipping is free. 4x6 run 0.73 apiece, worth every penny of it.

whcc.com

You can call them with questions. Very personable company located in Eagan MN. Trustworthy and polite people who run the company.
I would suggest Whitehouse Color for all your prin... (show quote)

I also use WhiteHouseCustomColor, a little higher in price, but great service & substrate selection ! They will print any odd size on the next size paper and you just trim.

I intend to use the projector to simply view my slides and pick out those which I want to scan. I will then send the selected slides to a service for this purpose. Any recommendations on a service?

You might want to consider just buying a "slide viewer" or a light table. Amazon shows slide viewers starting at $10. They all probably use 2 AA batteries. I used to use one to do just what you're doing.

To work on photos taken by the 50d you will need to continue to use a v3.xx of DPP. V4 of DPP does not support 50d files. If you open v4 all you will see are thumbnails of your files.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking !

My ratio is about the same, although it's actually 100% DPP and then approx 5% additional LR5 processing of the 100% output sized JPEGs from DPP. Download the 4.5 that supports both the new and old 7D models along with the current Canon full frame models with the focus being the RAW files. It will take some time with anything but the faster internet connection, but download the Canon lens profiles for your collection of lens.

CHG_CANON, I downloaded DPP 4 after see this thread and find that all my cr2 raw files only show thumbnails. I also downloaded the codec file. I was using v3 that came with my 50D. Appreciate any help !
