I have joined a camera club and with strong competition I want to improve. Interest is mainly black and white but also trying for "impact " colour shots. I guess photos from a Nikon D3200 should be better than from Nikon S6100?

I am considering a Nikon D3200 AR-S with 18-55mm VR lens but some reviews regard this lens not justifying the camera's potential. Should I buy this package and buy a separate lens, if so, which lens?, or, buy body only and buy a separate lens? Your comments greatly appreciated. Comparing a Nikon D3200 to a Nikon S6100 point and shoot 14mp. how big a comparison is photo quality? As can be seen I am new to digital photography.

Two excellent books you can read, both from Amazon, one is "Photoshop Elements 8 for Dummies," and the other is "Photoshop Elements 8 for Windows, the missing manual ". This manual goes through all aspects of Elements 8 If you are using Mac you should get the Mac version. Hope this helps.

When I started I bought an Nikon Coolpix S6100 and have had it the past 18 months. Takes great photos, cost $175.00 and the experience in learning the art of good photos has been a great learning curve. Had I bought a more expensive camera and had to spend months learning how to use it instead of taking pictures I would not have had such fun. This is my experience, others may have different advice. When I have the urge to up-grade no doubt I will have a better understanding of the camera I need.

suggest you go to Google and log on to tutorials. There are many listed and sure to help you further in the art of manipulation. Cheers.

Thanks Saichiez. You'r right, I did need to read your comments a second time but now understand the meaning of the "T" series. How about quality of pictures. This camera, now discontinued, is not expensive and the reason for my interest. 18mp would be better but more expensive and as I do not intend to enlarge to posters 12mp should be fine. What say you.

I have been using a Nikon Coolpix point and shoot and have produced some fine photos but believe I need to up-grade photos with a Canon EOS 1100D. Would appreciate comments of users of this camera, i.e. quality of prints, also a suggested wide angle lense. Propose to use lenses supplied 18-55mm Thanks
