I have been using a Nikon Coolpix point and shoot and have produced some fine photos but believe I need to up-grade photos with a Canon EOS 1100D. Would appreciate comments of users of this camera, i.e. quality of prints, also a suggested wide angle lense. Propose to use lenses supplied 18-55mm Thanks

This is the Canon rebel with the 1100d designation(T3), that you will find more often at big box stores as the smaller brother to the Canon T3i and the Canon T4i. You generally won't find the better (higher MP cameras or i models) alongside the non i models. Mostly in the budget style big box stores.

Those cameras are 18 Megapixel sensor cameras, compared to this 12 Mp camera which is also known in mor common parlance as the T3... No i. The i versions of all the REBEL cameras are usually more megapixels. The non i versions are smaller Mp cameras.

Interestingly this VERY same question came up yesterday on the T3. All the rebels have a long Rebel number and/or a two or three letter corresponding name, the purpose of which seems merely to be to muddy the water as to where one an acquire these cameras.

There is a three camera comparison for the T3i, the T3, and the T4i, one of which, the T3 is also the EOS 1100D.

The link to that comparison is listed on the yesterday post for the same question, using the shorter camera designations.

This has been consistent in the naming convention from Canon for the REBELs (entry level consumer) cameras with two names for the same camera. The shorter names and this pattern of model naming started a few years ago with camera's like the XS and XSi... short for the EOS 400D and the EOS 450D.

Confused? Probably intentional, but in all cases the biggest difference are that the non i camera have generally a third less megapixels than the i models. You have to sort out the distinction when using the EOS NUMBER designations.

Thanks Saichiez. You'r right, I did need to read your comments a second time but now understand the meaning of the "T" series. How about quality of pictures. This camera, now discontinued, is not expensive and the reason for my interest. 18mp would be better but more expensive and as I do not intend to enlarge to posters 12mp should be fine. What say you.

I have the EOS1100 and really like it. I have used the kit lens and also the Tamron 70-300 4-5.6 since I got it 8 months ago. I have printed up to A4 size and they are clear and sharp. Feel free to have a look at my Flickr page. I am now thinking about better lenses but undecided what to get. Hope this helps.
