When it came time to crop this osprey I was torn between two choices. Planning an 25 x 11.5 print, to maximize the bird, or to give it sky-space to "live" in.

This is what I've come up with, but still not convinced. I'd appreciate your thoughts. Also, any other comments. I really want to do this bird justice.

This is not a composite.

How do Topaz and some of the other AI apps do a better job than standard ACR on editing noise? Or are they just easier to use? To me, it would be like applying a filter when you can get the same result by using all the available PS tools.

That is the reaction I had when I did the free trial of the Topaz. A lot of $$ for what...

I would like to point out, if the photo was "straightened" as requested, the flat bottoms of the clouds would then be at a very un-cloudlike angle and the trees would be leaning very oddly for the circumstances.

I would love to see this done in a museum wrap canvas four feet on the long side.

That’s a really clear and well detailed image, Neil!

When I talk nice to it, this Sony can come through with some nice work. Or some that make me think I dropped it one to many times.

Oh, I know! It's so hard to give in when we're right, isn't it? I think I need to make a sign to put on my computer: Semper Gumby (Always Flexible)

Or a sign to put in the landscape, "This is not the horizon, it is a sloping hill crest".

Outstanding shot, simply outstanding!!! Excellent work.

(Just want to gently comment, though, that if several of us think the horizon needs straightening, then it doesn't matter if that's the way the land actually lies. It looks wrong. Sometimes you have to lie a little to tell a bigger truth (meaning that it distracts our attention from the horses). That's the "art" part of photography.)

Better ones than I have been telling me that for several years. I have finally given in at times and will straighten something that isn't. I still don't like it much.

This image is from the Onaqui mountain herd on a very windy day.

I think you have a real work of art in that image, mild candor. A great rendition.

Wow, excellent!! Here in Florida the haze that hangs over the state nearly year round makes shots like that a "wish list" item.

Glad you like it, olemikey. I can appreciate your situation in Florida. It's almost that way here on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Wow, terrific image. I am in Kent, WA and our sky probably isn't as clear as yours as I never get the same surface detail you have. Very nice.

Thank you, Jerry. I am normally out to shoot BIFs and I just leave the camera in burst mode. I have found that in 3 to 10 images (or whatever) from one press of the shutter, there will be one that is better than the others. Go for low ISO, high speed, and whatever aperture your camera is happiest with (mine is 7.1). There are quite a few images taken for the one I post here.

PP applied to this image: minor adjustment to exposure, slight sharpening.
We're having an exceptionally hot, dry period, and a much cleaner sky than usual, giving me the most detailed moon shots I've ever taken.

Like others said it was your cap locks.
I used Photoshop for years and never had the problem then it happened. Found the answer when Googled the problem but only after fighting the issue for over an hour. It was so strange to me that it didn't come up sooner.

You have just echoed my situation. This was on my new keyboard, which has a light for cap lock. Never happened with my older keyboards, which did not.
