Wow, terrific image. I am in Kent, WA and our sky probably isn't as clear as yours as I never get the same surface detail you have. Very nice.
Thank you, Jerry. I am normally out to shoot BIFs and I just leave the camera in burst mode. I have found that in 3 to 10 images (or whatever) from one press of the shutter, there will be one that is better than the others. Go for low ISO, high speed, and whatever aperture your camera is happiest with (mine is 7.1). There are quite a few images taken for the one I post here.

Wow, excellent!! Here in Florida the haze that hangs over the state nearly year round makes shots like that a "wish list" item.
