I seem to remember my Pentax K-x had a feature in the menu which ensured that images would be displayed in the image editing progamme in the correct orientation. The Pentax K-500 seems to lack this useful feature.. or have I missed something obvious. Any advice would be gratefully received..

There was a whole discussion on this a while back... Do a search for "light meters" you'll find stacks of info...

I agree, but sometimes "progress" is hard to see. I willingly embrace innovation, but sometimes we have to take a few steps back to make progress. Perhaps this is the case for Win8? Personally, I haven't had a problem with it, but like many, I prefer Win7. The great thing is that we have choices.

Yes we do.. or at least until Microsoft decides to withdraw support...

If you approach Windows 8 with a closed mind you will have trouble navigating the system. Yes it's new and a little different but if an old fart like me was able to master it, it can't be that difficult!

I'm an old fart as well and I've mastered W8 sufficient for my needs... but I still don't like it..

You should do the experiment again and use an incident light reading from your exposure meter.. and then compare the results. As Photog8 says, reflected light readings tend to try and recommend an exposure that will produce an average of 18% grey. The black cat in a coal hole and white bear in the snow comparison springs to mind when relected light readings should produce two images looking pretty much the same..the former over-exposed, the latter underexposed...

I had a similar encounter at a Scottish Heritage site some time ago when I was doing a shoot with a model . When the guy on the desk saw my bag and the one the model was carrying... he asked if I was a pro... and told me the charge was £25.00...I explained that we were amateurs and exactly what we wanted to do.. ..He acccepted that and only charged me the normal entrance fee and even let the model use a small room where she could change.. So I think it proves the point that a little common sense and diplomacy can work wonders..

For loss and damage, all my photography gear is on my household insurance... more than enough cover at minimal excess on the basic premium..and a lot cheaper than extended warranties on each individual item.

I never buy extended warranties... because in the UK we have a pretty good Sale of Goods Act which covers you for up to 6 years (5 in Scotland).

I'm having the same trouble.. resulting in unsharp images.. I've discovered this gadget..

I've bought one but haven't tried it yet.. but it looks to be a variation of what colo43 is describing..
