Yeah, Hue certainly didn’t look like that when I was there in ‘72. Ho Chi Minh City was still Saigon in ‘68-69, and didn’t have that peaceful look to it that it does today. Memories.

I was in the 101st Airborne and we were not allowed to go much of anywhere off the post. I did get a couple of rides around the area, such as Phu Bai and Hue, and some places where I didn’t catch the name. I had never seen such poor looking areas in my life. And the weather. I’m sure it couldn’t have been all bad, but I honestly cannot remember a time where it wasn’t either sweltering hot and humid (and I do mean hot) or pouring down continual rain in the monsoon season. Always cold and clammy.

I certainly do not miss it.

I was stationed near Hue while in the Army. The place was called Phu Bai. Would be interesting to see it today.

We're planning on visiting Monument Valley in September. It appears there's a bit of variability in the cost for photo tours, so I thought I'd see if you hogs have any advice. While you're at it, advice on gear would help too, as I've read recommendations that emphasize wide angle, and others that emphasize telephoto.
Thanks in advance.

Been there 3 times. Took our own Jeep once and took the guided tour once. The cost of the guided tours is not all that bad and you can do a little "negotiating". The guided tours do get you to a few places that you cannot go on your own, but you are on their schedule, not yours. I found that our time in our own vehicle was more enjoyable and we got to get many views that are not covered on the guided tour.

I too am a Nikon guy, but was wanting something a little smaller and lighter. Several years ago, I gave Olympus mirrorless MFT a try. I now have three. Great little camera(s). Sad to say, the Nikons are hardly ever used anymore.

Our local one says it is also closing. However, they don't seem all that serious about it. Sounds like a misguided sales ploy.

Another reason to stay home and watch it on TV.

Always one of my concerns when I use my trailer. No spare, no lug wrench. Been lucky so far.

I have several Garmins which I use regularly, but what you describe is one of my beefs with them. No reason that these options and many others could not be incorporated.

Should you shut down your computer every night when your finished, or leave it on all the time. I've heard so many different answers..i'd love your opinion from you guys.

Do you leave all your other electronics on all the time? What about your TV? Radio? Toaster oven? In my opinion, the computer is no different.

I'm heading to Antelope Canyon this week and planning on visiting the lower canyon. I'm taking my Nikon 5100 and I'm not going to bring a tripod. I am curious to see what you think might be the best settings to use. As an aside I'm claustrophobic and I'm hoping they won't get in my way.

I just checked the metadata from last years visit. Looks like I used about f4.5 and about 1/50 second. Was using a VR lens which was very helpful. I do not have the ISO recorded. Sorry. I would suggest that you chimp several shots to see what you are going to need for settings. Shoot in raw, and white balance can be adjusted in post. Use the widest and fastest lens you can manage, and don't even think about changing lenses in the canyon. Plenty of dust in the air. Have fun.
