I have been in and out of the hospital with cancer, flu and renal failure since Dec of last year Things have changed. One baffler is how to access the iStock page. It seems that now they use an ESP. Support has sent me my new user name and I have my password (I think) but I still cannot find the page to submit on nor my balance owed.
Can any of you fine Hogs send me some SIMPLE direction (as in contrast to Suppo....thanksrt) on how to get back on. I'm stymied
Thanks in advance

WTF has that got to do with photography. Have you not had your fill of swill from the last political race that you have to extend it into our lives and thoughts and ideas of cameras. Take your bloody soap box to another corner.

I love UHH. It's part of my morning ritual of checking email, weather, news.
I'm a retired teacher of mathematics (40 years in the NJ public system). I loved every year with a passion.
As I check posts on UHH each morning, I'm intrigued by the questions asked in many posts. Frequently, I use Google and Microsoft's search box (called Cortana) to research a possible response to the question(s). Often I find information, within seconds, relevant to a posted question.

So, here is the teacher in me wanting to help those who do not use search tools to find answers to their post(s). Google, Bing, Edge, IE, Safari and Cortana (available in Win 10), when used properly, are like having a miniature library on your desktop. One does not even need formal training to be successful in researching information. Just type exactly what you want to know in the search box.
There was a time you had to be clever with how to search successfully. No longer!! It's a piece of cake. Frequently, I copy the title of the post and paste that into Cortana or other search engine boxes. The answer is often immediate. Sometimes it is necessary to review a few of the links offered by the search.

Please try using search tools! You'll be amazed at how easy it is. You will learn and improve your skills as you continue to use them. I'd be happy to help. Feel free to PM me.
Good luck in your searching.
Mark

Thanks Teacher. I never met a BAD teacher... just a few that were less inspired than others. Unfortunately in the 1940's I was a horrible student... later turned out that I had an attention disorder. Had it not been for WW II I would still be in high school. Now t the subject: Another great tool is U-Tube. You can learn almost anything you want by going there.
Thanks for bearing up with kids like me.

I recently stated shooting Ultra Violet photography using paints and cosmetics from Amazon on my models. For lighting I'm using a fluorescent tube and a 40 watt incandescent light. A fried told me that someone makes a filter for a flash that will turn it into UV. He thought it was Edmund Scientific Laboratory but I can't find anything in their on-line catalog. Any information and experiences with UV shooting will be great appreciated.... as in the past. I shoot totally Canon and their flash

[quote=Tom DePuy]A long time ago when I worked in a photo lab, a guy came in to pick up some prints of his naked wife. I had a peek at the pics as I handed them over.
"Would you like the negatives?" I asked.
"Yes please," he said sheepishly.
"She's got saggy boobs and a huge bum" I replied.

I decided to become a nude photographer but the girls told me to put my clothes back on!

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that

Two photographers are in the men’s room at the urinal. One guy is a Canonian and the other a Nikonian.
The Nikon guy finishes his business first. He simply zips his fly and heads for the door.
As he was leaving, the Canon guy turns his head towards him and says “Excuse me, Canon photographers wash our hands when we are finished urinating”.
The Nikon guy says ” I understand, but us Nikon guys don’t pee on our hands”

"What's the difference between a full time photographer and a large costco pizza?

Is there a question there? Or advice?

I have a 7 and 1/2 diameter light reflector that houses a 100 watt florescent bulb. I want to project a venetian blind shadow on the face of my model. I know I'll have to move it in or out to the model for focus and I can live with the WB by raw adjustments but what can I use to cause the shadow. OR... if anyone has a substitute method to make this style of shadow will you please share. Thanks in advance

I saw an interesting blog post, I can't remember for the life of me where I saw it, maybe it was Photofocus or FStoppers, or one like that.

The gist of it was

"It is amazing that Americans think they need to do both the shooting and the post-processing of their own images".

The author was talking about all levels of photographer, not just pros. And she made a good point, that it is easy to ship images off to other countries where people offer this service and their time is much cheaper than ours. And they are good at it. And she said that this is not uncommon in other countries.

Question to UHHers who do not live the US, is this true?

She also made the point that depending on the value of the particular image, one might send it to a more skilled and more expensive person vs a less expensive person one would use for everyday images.

It struck a cord with me because I do not like to spend time post processing. I would much rather be out shooting than sitting in a dark room finding around on a computer. I will usually toss an image rather than fiddle with it for more than a few minutes, in post. But I am a hobbyist, and I shoot for my own reasons, my art, and thus I have that option.

But it does bring up a good point. Why am I bothering with this post-processing stuff? Taking pictures, is what I like, not computer processing. Maybe I could find someone to do the post work, for a reasonable fee. I'm speaking for myself but I'm sure I am not the only one who has had these feelings.

I can envision the add: "looking for hot girl/model who loves being photographed and also loves post processing, for businesss partnership and ??, send picture". Ok that's a joke OK. But you get the idea.

I have toyed with the idea but I have no idea of a reasonable price. I shoot stock and there is NO slop money for processing outside. Any ideas of what's "reasonable" and if you answer give me the gamut from cheapest to most dollars... as well as expected time to wait.

You got many replies and advice... some good and some utterly worthless. I am admittedly a Canonista and I have never owned or wanted to own a Nikon but I realize it is also a god camera.
I DO own the 7D and I bought it primarily for it's BIF fast focus... it is excellent. I use it in my stock photography and I shoot portraits with it. iStock and Getty like the shots... so let that be a recommendation for you Go to a photo store, bring your own card and take a few shots with several cameras. Go home and compare and whatever makes you happy go for it. Forget the ravings of a person that claim s that Nikon, or whatever their "weapon of choice" is.... it's your money and you'll be living with whatever you choose. Good luck and keep on clicking
