The Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124 AF Pro DX II Lens has apparently been discontinued. I've been quite pleased with mine, but haven't used it a great deal. Kind of curious as to why it's gone, particularly after the positive reviews.

I have just purchased the new Tokina 12-28 lens for my D7000 and so far with just a little usage I can say I like it. I believe this is the replacement for the 12-24. This is my first wide angle lens so I am I'm not an expert. I find the 12-28 somewhat forgiving in that it is not ultrawide. The photos are crystal clear. You will get flaring of course when shooting into the sun wide open but you know not to do that already. BTW it is also handy for the occasional close shot of people and not just limited to landscapes so you don't need to change lenses in mid stream. Ken Rockwell raved about it though Dp Lens thought it had severe CA problems. I have tried to duplicate their poor results but so far I don't see CA as a major problem. I read about four good reviews and one poor and after using it some I think it is a keeper. It is built very sturdy but weighs about the same as a Nikon 18-200 which I find not very heavy. I bought it to get some wide shots of the glaciers in Chile and for Iguazu Falls for an upcoming trip. Has anyone else used this lens? Is there anything I'm missing so far?

I had dust on my sensor mechanism on my 10 month old D7000 and Nikon cleaned and adjusted everything to good working order in just 2 weeks turn around time and did so under warranty at no charge. They did not replace the shutter mechanism but I didn't expect them to do so since I think only the D600 has been having the oil issue. I appreciated their efficient and no hassle process.

Cumberland Island is one of our favorite places. Find the old mansion ruins and hope to get the wild horses in the photos there or anywhere on the island. The beach has lots of driftwood making for beautiful shots with the dunes and the ocean. You just don't find the driftwood like that elsewhere on southern beaches. There used to be a great seafood restaurant just a short distance and on the same street just south of the ferry landing if you want to cap off a wonderful day with dinner. Be sure to take any water or snacks with you. You can't go wrong with Fernadina or St. Augustine as others have suggested. Have fun!

Thank you for all your suggestions. I'll follow up with the EWA site. The zip lock & "binliner" seems like a simple solution for water protection for general rain and mist. Now, if I just don't fall in the water when taking all these photos. If I can find a good one I'll share Iguazu Falls with everyone.

I just wanted to introduce myself to UHH forum and ask a question. I'm strictly an amateur but have been shooting mostly vacation and landscapes photos from long ago with Pentax and then Nikon film cameras. I moved to a D70 and recently purchased a D7000. I do use a Canon G15 for some of my vacation shots. My question concerns an upcoming cruise to South America and a post trip to Iguazu Falls in Argentina. My wife shoots videos with her Sony and I take only stills and we are concerned about protecting the cameras in the dampness of the overlooks and when shooting in the tour boat. I understand I can't be under the falls with the camera but in general the entire scene has to be pretty hard on electronic equipment. What do you suggest we use for this protection? I also need suggestions for a dry bag for when shooting is out of the question. I thought I would take my DX 18-300 and DX 35 MM lenses along with the Canon G15. Thanks for all the interesting discussions and information and any suggestions you may pass along.

I'm new to the hedge but have been enjoying your comments for awhile. Just an amateur but have been shooting since many years ago with my Pentax Spotmatic.
I purchased the 18-200 VRI with my D70 seven years ago and have loved using it and it was on my camera 95% of the time. It was great for travel and not too heavy for all day touring. It's range is ideal for most vacation travel. The lens creep is a real drag however. Alas the VR went out and I purchased a D7000 and a new 18-200 VR II and it works great with no lens creep due to the lens lock. But then the 18-300 price was discounted and I picked up a new one from B&H. It is heavier but I seldom take it off the camera since getting it. The pictures are wonderful to my not to critical eye. I have kept the 18-200 because it is lighter and there are times I just don't want the extra weight for day long use. I still have the 18-70 and use it now and then. I bought a DX 35mm 1.8 for no flash opportunities and I have a Canon G15 which has a 1.8 lens and I keep it on my belt if I need it for low light or a make do macro shot. You will not go wrong with the 18-200 but if you can take the extra weight get the 18-300. Good luck and enjoy the search.

I had similar issues with Windows 7 Professional and removed SP1, I agree that since they were sold to Corel (NXT was during that process) that they are loosing ground support wise, but have not found a program that separates sound from videos and integrates, been using since Roxio 3 when they sent out 100+ page manual. I learn more about it's capabilities with every travel video (30+) just save often, dump "App Data" Roxio-Sonic temp files, reboot before a burn and reformat your computer annually. I removed NXT because it would not read down and went back to Roxio 13.
