How far away was that?

Hi John
About 1.5 miles away. Just after the fog filted so there was very little in the way of heat waves to deal with.

My very first shot with the Nikon Meade combo. I shot this photo with my Nikon D600, Meade 8" f/10 2000mm & KALT 3X Teleconverer.
I picked up a little noise in the PP bring in the Clarity. Does anybody have any experience with this kind of photography???

I currently own the D7000 but am thinking of upgrading to the 7100. My main reasons to upgrade are to have the higher megapixels so I can blow pictures up bigger and possibly better image quality. Is it worth it to upgrade? I don't shoot any video.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

"D7100, Nikons BEST APS-C camera without a doubt"??? I went through the whole D5xxx lineup. So jumping a few Mega Pixels each time didn't make much diffrence to me so I went to the Full Frame D600, WOW.
And I am amazed at the increase picture & print quality of the FF.

Hi Craig. No it is the new Nikon 80-400 AFS. I broke down and sold a few lenses. I am very happy with it!! Tack sharp from 80-400 with everything I have taken. Now I have to try the 1.4 and 1.7 TC's I have. The 1.7 will give me a 680mm.:):)

Erv Congratulations on getting your Nikon 80-400mm AFS.
I to am in the process of selling off some third party Lenses to get more Nikon Glass.

You -2EV shot still has blown out areas . . . in extreme situations like this the "blinkies" in your LCD screen should have indicated this and called for a further underexposed image. Blown areas are not repairable in PP. You cannot correct an area that has not been recorded.

At least the cash register at the Alter can be salvaged.LOL

My 80-200 f2.8 IF ED Nikon D lens autofocuses just fine with a Kenko Pro 2x converter.

My Tamron 2x TC does fine with AF @ f/2.8 in low light.
Where the f/3.5-5.6 has trouble with AF in low light especially at f/5.6 or higher. I use the Viewfinder Manual Focus Spot. I think you lose 1.5 to 2 f/stops with a 2x TC?

I have a nikon ED AF Nikkor 80-200mm 1.2.8D lens, can I use a teleconverter and still have the Auto focus? I was photographing surfers last week and would like a bit more Touch! But I need the Auto Focus and keep the quality!
or go for a larger zoom lens? What Do you think of the 150-600mm tamron?

AF Zoom-Nikkor 80-200mm f/4.5-5.6D x x x
x : Not compatible, cannot be used.
All X's means none of the TC's will work on your Lens.
They are designed for the AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8D IF-ED ○ ○ ○
I use the Tamron SP 2x Teleconverter

I see someone has already recommended the David Busch guides. I second that recommendation. For the D7100 he has both a large comprehensive manual and a field guide that will fit into most camera bags.

I use my Busch's Field Guide alot when I'm on a Shoot and the full size at home to study.
I don't use the Nikon Manual at all, I've never opened it.

Hey Guy's

I bought a Nikon D7100 very lightly used a while back off of E-bay. Very happy with the camera it is what they said it was. 3 on the shutter count. Any how they threw away the box and didn't have the manuals with it. Is there any where on the web that I can get them?

A 24mm lens would give you a 36mm (full frame equivalent), or use a zoom at 24mm. There are a few good DX zooms, and one excellent DX zoom, the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC.

Thank you very much for putting up with my learning curve.

The Nikon 35mm f/1.8G DX is $200, while the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G FX is $600, for exactly the reason skiman said. There are very few DX prime or pro/pro-sumer zoom lenses, because the FX lenses also work with the DX cameras.

So the only way to actally get 35mm's is to use one of the , also cheep, DX Zooms at f/3.5 ??? Or my 17-35 croped to 25-52mm???
