Well, I AM a math teacher, as well as a physics teacher. The math course? It's called Math for Teachers. In our state, every future teacher is required to take and pass a test that is rather unrealistic. For example, a future 3rd. grade teacher must show master of trig functions, equations with fractional exponents, and imaginary numbers, among others. Why? I have no clue. My job was to write a course to help college students to learn all these and much more. After six months of writing, I've created this course that has been offered for two semesters, and a new third semester begins next week.

On the first day of class, I will ask: "How many of you hate math?" The answer, so far, has been EVERYONE. Why, I ask? Answer is obvious. When they studied math in high school, algebra being an example, they did not understand what was going on. So the only recourse for them was to memorize everything to earn a decent grade, with the result being not only a decent grade, but a hatred for the subject. I fully understand all this. Soooo, I promise them I will offer all the above mentioned topics, plus 21 more, IF they will guarantee they will ask questions for clarity. To assure this, they have homework to do after every class, and a quiz on that homework the next class meeting. Of course, we discuss that homework, I invite questions so they become masters of the material.

By the third week (so far, knocking on my wood desk) I will hear comments like: "I'm now enjoying math", and "I look forward to coming to class". So algebra, geometry, trig, simultaneous equations, can all make sense as long as they have a teacher dedicated to achieving clarity and mastery.

By the way, so far, every student (future teacher) who has taken that state math test have passed the test.

And should you say that I "teach the test", my response is NO. I teach the broader topics the test covers.

It is unfortunate that so many people, to include my fellow UHH members, were in classes where *mastery and *fun didn't happen. (Yes, math can be fun too.)

Hey Kiron, My university continues to offer multi courses in photography, to include film photography, as well as the darkroom. Maybe like LP records, film photography will continue to live.

BTW, two years ago, I bought a second 5DII body identical to my first one, so I'm good for a long number of years.

Thank you Canisdirus, We keep reading of increased sensors in cell phones, but no comment about the lens...the glass. Without it, a sensor is worth little.

That's a great shot. I love the UK. About your shot, have you thought about the possibility of making that into a wide panorama shot? You could still use this image.

My camera, along with extra memory cards, have gone through the x-ray machines at St. Louis Lambert Airport many times, with no ill effect. I think you can relax about those.

Don't forget, if there is an Affinity user here, and knows the "tool" to use when clicking on a gray card, please share.

Perhaps you guys can answer a question for me. When I was using Photoshop, I was able to use my gray card when photographing art work for my best friend. In Photoshop, I could click the gray with a tool, and it will tell me what color temp I should be using.

I have not yet found that tool in Affinity. Have any of you found that tool in Affinity?

Bill, your thread title certainly caught my attention, for I'm immersing myself into the world of wrap canvas. What would you think of doing a wrap canvas job, with your image, on a 1 inch wood frame?

I'm told that youtube has tutorials for that task. I'd certainly follow this story.

I've enjoyed reading all of these post so far. And as a physics teacher, I can easily present a scientific definition. But, as a photographer...and human...I like the suggestion that it should be what we find visually appealing.

For anyone not shooting RAW, keep in mind that adjusting white balance is built right into RAW management, in both Photoshop and Affinity. (There is, I believe, an indirect way to adjust white balance for .jpg as well.)

I'm known to have a great sense of humor. I'm with you Jerry, to see you walk around your neighborhood wearing this suit.

You've received many excellent suggestions. I just want to add: You've caught onto Affinity quickly. Great move.

I'm with you Crich, Simon Foster's course on Udemy is excellent, and it moves so fast. Mine you, I'm a classroom teacher too, so I usually catch onto things pretty quickly. But I needed to rewatch his a second or a third time to be able to hang onto all the great tips.

I'm still hoping for an extremely detailed Affinity Bible like my Photoshop Bible.

Thanks Jerry, I'm hoping other new Affinity users click on your link. It is an excellent book, I've studied it cover to cover. Should you see other books, especially if different than the ones I listed earlier, please share. You are so good and researching and sharing.

Bill

Cwilson, you are so right. Actually I purchased two or three courses, also from Udemy. I found the first to be extremely informative...but moving sooo fast. I will return, but start, then stop, then pause, then back up. It just didn't work will for me. That's is why I'm on a quest to put my hands on hardcopy tutorials.

I was curious to ask. For those of us who use Apple, and no longer use Photoshop/Bridge, I learned from a fellow member here about FastRawViewer. It is not free, but the cost is almost nothing. So I use that to browse through the RAW files I bring home, and then send my selection on to Affinity.
