Here is my O-Flash modification, which added more than a full stop of exposure:

I used common white glue to attach mylar to cardboard. I have read about fellow macrographers gluing mylar inside circular channel, behind circular Fresnel prism, but have not attempted such myself.

The cardboard legs are not in the light path, so I did not glue mylar there. It will not hurt, but I see no advantage to gluing mylar there.
Here is my O-Flash modification, which added more ... (show quote)
I purchased an o-flash adapter recently and took it apart according to your instructions to find that the one i bought had a different piece which is all ready reflective now.... Wonder if anyone else has found this?

How does one go about setting up the exposure of a shot when there is such a huge difference in light values? See example.

Another possibility since it is a static display would have been to take the picture at a different time of day..... No real equipment change will be necessary.... Just my 2cents worth

You have put a lot of thought into this.

Pretty much a knee Jerk reaction to a much deeper problem. Mental health is the issue. Not guns.... They are inanimate objects totally unable to kill or maim on their own... Why do people continue to cloud the issue with unnecessary laws... Who will pay for all this regulation.... We are able to tell you where a cow with Mad Cow disease slept for the last 5 years and we can't keep track of all the illegal aliens here in this country. Our own Eric Holder and our out of control government gave guns to mexican drug lords.... Do you really think this will eliminate the criminal element from having weapons and using them as they please....
Nice idea but totally unworkable... sorry to say......
Just my 2 cents worth...

That part is true.... I guess I just see things differently ;-) ;-)
I pretty much think that is why we are photographers.... We look at things in a different light so to speak.

Is it true that Nikon uses Lexar cards to test thier cameras? I have a D7000 and I use Lexar 400x (16gb & 32gb).

Nikon tests any and all cards submitted from manufacturers that meet the specs for the body being tested. Those submitted cards that pass all tests for compatibility are then specifically listed in that cameras manual as being compatible. Brands not submitted or those that failed compatibility tests are not listed.
My D800 manual lists specific SD cards from Sandisk, Toshiba, Panasonic and Lexar as having been tested and proven compatible. But for CF card compatibility they only list Sandisk and Lexar. I bought a pair of Kinston 266X CF cards from B&H while waiting for my D800E and after it arrived I found out they were NOT compatible with the D800. Kingston appologized and was aware of the issue, I had to wait 5 weeks but they shipped me compatible cards when they were able to manufacture them and I have had no problems with them at all. I was even asked to field test those cards and after submitting my review along with some sample shots, they sent me another card for free for my patience and assistance.

Now that is what I call customer service.

I have an older version of snagit.... extremely useful.... I use it all the time. Works much better than snipit that is included with windows. Much more customizable. Very handy when trying to put together a presentation if you are assisting someone trying to learn a particular operation etc.

I would have to do some looking but living a few blocks from lake Michigan until i was 23 I vividly remember one heck of a lot more beach during my early years. Back in the 60's. However when I go back there now there is barely any beach left. Before you say erosion I took the initiative to ask an employee of the metropolitain sanitary district and he produced a graph dating back to the 30's. The lakes have changed heights continuously from fairly high to pretty low.... I can't find the graph... However it is somewhat cyclic... Just like the rest of the phenomenons in nature. Just my 2 cents worth.

It all depends on what chip they use in the camera and how well they place the receiving antenna. Had an old samsung phone and the gps was very poor. New Galaxy SIII with googles My tracks turned on it gives more stats than most need. And it doesn't bother the camera battery..... So the technology is there it just has to be implemented. Perhaps the Gps needs to be left on when the camera is off.... or at least that option.... The Samsung phone acquires a location in seconds every time so far even under heavy tree cover and indoors.... Also detects the russian satelites... Pretty neat technology.

Also remember that the mark will only be good at the temperature you do your testing. At the extremes it might again be slightly off. After all that is why they make the lens's with that extra little margin of error and so you don't come up against a hard stop when in autofocus

I'm trying to find a solution for my in-laws to get them away from dial up internet. Is there a free or cheap way to get high speed internet that you know of?

Depending on their income there may be a solution on government subsidized internet. I have heard $10 / month can be had in many areas of the country.... Beware sharing with a neighbor because most if not all internet companies have it in their terms of service that if you share you lose your internet... just an fyi

Yet another company is falling by the wayside in Illinois. Does anyone really think that this state is run efficiently? Bain has an obligation to it's stock holders first and foremost to make a profit. They simply use the laws that have been put in place by our greedy politians to make a profit. If the laws are unfair lobby or protest or what ever helps to get them changed. Perhaps quit spending like drunken sailors and fix some of the problems.
