This is an image of the Andromeda Galaxy (aka M-31). Info as follows" Canon 60Da camera with Canon 100mm Macro lens, ISO 1600, f/4, 13 exposures at 3 minutes each, stacked with DeepSky Stacker, processed in Photoshop Elements 9.
The two satellite galaxies, M-32 and NGC 205 are also visible next to the main galaxy. Also two other lesser known satellite galaxies, NGC 147 and NGC 185 are to the north of the main galaxy. All of these are members of the so-called "Local Group" which contains our galaxy the Milky Way and several other galaxies as well.

Great job on keeping the stars very close to their true colors too. And pinpoint focus!!! I'm learning how difficult that is to do.

I really like the Nebulosity you were able to capture with 3 entirely different exposures.
What program were you able to do this kind of Stack with???

WOW, completely different image. For tabletop work it is often hard to beat the staple of the field, softbox. Good work and well executed Craig.

I think considering what the original is, you did pretty good! Not sure if I could do any better! Again, you'll love that 150-600. But for any deep sky stuff, you'll need a drive. I think you have something already, if I remember?

Yes I do have a drive . It's from a Celestron DS 4.5" refractor and I made a piece of 1.5"x10" steel stock into a mounting bracket with 1/4" and 3/8" holes.

I do wonder what it would look like illuminated with a Speedlite and box diffuser.
Houston we have lift-off. Here are the Softbox stacks you wanted to see, they look pretty good if I do say so.
D600 w/60mm Micro lens, f/7.1, ISO 50, 1/125 sec. Nikon SB-700 flash w/6"x8" softbox @ 45* angle,
Translucent Coaster is elevated so light passes completely thru top and bottom. 15 slices in the stack at .10mm each.

Front 15 slices

Backside 3 slices

An interesting subject and the photos came out well. I prefer the second photo. Catch rings are less noticeable and my eyeballs prefer the color. I do wonder what it would look like illuminated with a Speedlite and box diffuser. Lighting wouldn't be as even but it would get rid of the catch lights in the gold. I look forward to seeing more.
This has been an interesting fun project. I will re photograph as you ask after the 49er game. I think they finally have someone they can beat handily.

Is this viewing mag or photography mag? I have seen no images close to 200x magnification.
After Download, Viewing Magnification with the CTRL key and mouse Wheel to 200x. Around the edges of the gold area you can see the transition of stone to Epoxy. Someone did a very meticulous job.
