This building is one of my favorite subjects so I thought I'd give it a try in HDR.

Walt

Nice job Walt, I like this HDR. I'll bet it shows closer to how the eye saw it.

I've seen this quite often. The crows or other small birds give away a hawk's hiding place. Nice series and interesting captures.

Thank you Vicki, it's always interesting to watch the conflict between the 2 birds.

I'm missing something here. Either I'm stupid or this doesn't make sense.

Sorry, the Redtail Hawk is partially hidden in the pine tree and the Crows are making his life uncomfortable. A flock of Crows is called a Murder.

I caught a Murder of Crows after a Redtail Hawk.
He waited them out and got away.
Here's the Action shot with Nikon D600 w/ Tamron 150-600mm Lens

He's in there, We'll get Him

pretty amazing, especially using just the 600mm lens!

Thank you DL, and they were such hurried shots to beat the clouds I'm amazed they came out at all.

I enjoy field macro immensely. Nothing like getting out in the field away from it all. Process and results are far from perfect but I’m going to enjoy working with this rig and improving my technique and results.
Great shots Bill and a wonderful narrative to go with them. Gives me more insight in how to work myself.

I think you finally struck gold with your new 12x14 Light Box.
Well done Jim.

I open both in Photoshop and do a circle clone stamp just outside what I want and center over the over bright Jupiter. A couple of clicks with the mouse and you have a clean planet with moons where they should be. It's pretty easy and gives a reasonable result.

Thank you Jim I'll see what I can find in PS.

What I do is shoot for moons and then shoot for Jupiter.
Clone the Jupiter clean shot into the moon shoot slightly brought down and you have a passible shot of both.
Just too much difference in the intensity of the planet wanting to wash out the moons if exposed properly.

Clone the Jupiter clean shot into the moon shoot. Can that be done in LR or PS?

Thanks for that little extra!! I'm so tickled when I manage a decent moon shot or a faraway bird....planets are just one of those things I'll dream about and watch for your shots!!!

Yes, the shot of Jupiter with the Moons is completely washed out, the only way to get the Moons. I wonder if someone knows how to get the exposure for Jupiter and the moons right in the same shot??? Something to do with Masks maybe?

I spent the morning at Bosque Del Apache and was surprised by the number of Bald Eagles and other raptors that I saw. More surprising was the lack of ducks. Usually the ponds are almost over run with ducks but not today.
Here are a couple of shots from today.

I love the Bald Eagle taking a rest from being harassed by the Murder of Crows. Nice work Jim.

What am I missing here? I see Nikon lens hoods for $20-$30, seems overpriced for a piece of plastic...then I come across one for $1,078 the
HK-38 lens hood: http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Product/Lens-Hoods/HK-38-Lens-Hood.html
Jeez! I could buy a D5200 for that much!

$17,899.95 for the Lens.

Downloaded and played with Photomatix last night.

Single exposure converted into 5 separate files (-2,-1,0,+1,+2) and combined in Photomatix.

I'm not sure I like it, I'm not sure I don't :-)

GT

Hi GT, That's a very interesting way to stack. I'll have to give it a try.

Craig, Nice shot, looking forward to additional shots with the 150-600. Gary

Thank you Gary, I only had 2 min to shoot this in a break in the clouds then it really socked in. Next time I'll use my Teleconverter(s).
Craig
PS I am in love with this Lens. It will take a while to learn it.
