This beautiful female Monarch butterfly emerged from her chrysalis yesterday. My first encounter with her was when she was merely a tiny cream colored egg on the underside of a milkweed leaf. I brought her inside, along with several siblings, to take care of. When it came time to release her, I put her on a geranium plant where she stayed for perhaps thirty minutes or more, allowing me to photograph her. Before flying away, she landed on my head. I think this was her way of saying goodbye!
I am sure there will be many obstacles along the way but I certainly hope she does arrive in Mexico safely...:)

Beautiful picture! How did you add the texture? I like it.
Thank you Renchelle for the nice comment regarding my pic. I applied the texture in photoshop. It was a texture I downloaded from a free website. Thanks again for lookimg at my butterfly photo. Jan

Life offers many simple pleasures. So glad you enjoyed one of them and made an excellent digital capture.
Thank you CanonShot. I appreciate your very kind remarks and for taking a peek at my photo...Jan
This is a pic of a monarch butterfly that I took care of from the egg stage. He (a male) had just emerged from his chrysalis a few hours before I took this photo. I applied a subtle texture to mask out the screen in the background. He was beautiful!

I have been trying to do close-ups for about ten years now, first with my Fuji SS5500 then my Canon 350D and now my 450D. Initially with the Fuji I had a set of 4 close-up lenses, 55mm diameter. These I also used on my 350D with a converter ring. Then I had a set of extension rings given me but they had no electrical lens to body connections and were difficult to use as the aperture was fully open all the time. I did a few stacked focus shots but not much good for moving objects. For my 450D I now have a set of "best quality" bought from Hong Kong extension rings with the through connections, a 13mm, 21mm and 31mm, for about a third the price of Canon's. I would have liked Canon's but it was these or nothing. (Available cash, low pension, other conflicting needs etc.). During my last holiday in Sussex (UK) I was trying them out with both the kit 18-55mm lens and the 50mm f1.8 lens.
Here are a few for your comments:

Seems like you have done a fantastic job. Do you still have the link for Hong Kong extension rings? I would like to try some of these. Very nice pics...Jan
