Does anyone have pictures you've taken of an lunar eclipse? There is going to be a lunar eclipse this Saturday, so if you are bored and looking for a project, why not try to capture some shots for yourself. I don't know the exact time the eclipse will begin (it depends on where you are), but you can get more info on yahoo news. Please post any shots you already have, and any you take.

If any of you are like me you are forever looking for a lens cap after a shot....
Well I finally cured the problem, in fact I have 2 cures.
Since my camera straps have velcro on them for attaching security climbing harness - and - I almost always wear something with velcro on it - I attached a piece of self adhesive velcro to the lens cap. Now I just stick the cap to the strap or jacket, pants pocket flap or whatever, and there it is.
In warm weather I often wear a gadget vest or a flyfishing vest, each of these has a velcro patch on the left breast - ideal place to park a cap. Barring those, I attach a cord to the cap and the other end to the strap, it dangles in the way sometimes but I never lose it.
just remember to match positive and negative velcro, or it wont stick - like magnets - opposites attract!

Some of the best solutions to annoying little problems are the simpliest solutions. I really don't know why I didn't think of that, because when I dropped one of my favorite cameras and the door to the SD card slot broke, I turned to velcro to keep the card in. It's not that great to look at, but it solved the problem. I recently went to a reunion, and left my lens cap on the table. I ordered replacement caps, but of course, they were the wrong size. Thanks for taking the time to share your solution.

sinatraman, michigan offers a world of things to do in the winter, especially if you are into photography like I am, btw, "he" is actually a "she".

sorry about calling you a he. You can't tell with a lot of these screennames. As for me seeing How I was a michiganian from the age of 6 to tha age of 35 (big Rapids, Ferris State Alumni) I know all about Michigan winters. It was a joke, said in jest. Howevever if you don't ski, snowmobile, or ice fish winter in the north can get rough. That's why my adress now says FLORIDA. I like wearing shorts and a t shirt in January. I like that the cars aren't all covered with soot and road salt as well as rust. Not to mention snow caused fender benders as well as car deer accidents. gotta go put on some Jimmy Buffet and think about a tropical CHRISTmas. You did figure out i am just messin with ya?

Yes I did. No harm done! As hard as I try not to think about some of the drawbacks of living in this icy state, (you so graciously reminded me of), it is sorta hard to enjoy all the nice things when you are slip, sliding away down these freeways. And ahhhh, the car-deer accidents, who can forget that. I just encountered one ( a deer, not an accident) the other week in Monroe.
I will be visiting the fine state of Florida for Christmas, so I am looking forward to leaving the hat, gloves, scarve, boots, sweaters, hoodies, and thermals at home.

How large a print can be produced using this camera?

I can't decide if I should wait and get a mpre advanced camera since I have a bridge camera now.

If the majority of your prints will be blown up, I would probably consider another camera. I have had my prints from the D60 blown up to 16X20, and they came out great. I have never had one blown up beyond that, so I am not sure how they would look.

A lawyer and a senior citizen are sitting next to each other on a long flight.
The lawyer is thinking that seniors are so dumb that he could get one over on them easily.

So, the lawyer asks if the senior would like to play a fun game.
The senior is tired and just wants to take a nap, so he politely declines and tries to catch a few winks.

The lawyer persists, saying that the game is a lot of fun...."I ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you pay me only $5.00. Then you ask me one, and if I don't know the answer, I will pay you $500.00," he says.

This catches the senior's attention and, to keep the lawyer quiet, he agrees to play the game.

The lawyer asks the first question. "What's the distance from the Earth to the Moon?"
The senior doesn't say a word, but reaches into his pocket, pulls out a five-dollar bill, and hands it to the lawyer.

Now, it's the senior's turn. He asks the lawyer, "What goes up a hill with three legs, and comes down with four?"

The lawyer uses his laptop to search all references he can find on the Net.
He sends E-mails to all the smart friends he knows; all to no avail. After an hour of searching, he finally gives up.

He wakes the senior and hands him $500.00. The senior pockets the $500.00 and goes right back to sleep.

The lawyer is going nuts not knowing the answer. He wakes the senior up and asks, "Well, so what goes up a hill with three legs and comes down with four?"

The senior reaches into his pocket, hands the lawyer $5.00, and goes back to sleep.

You know you're going to send this one on.
Don't mess with seniors!

I have an old friend that posted on facebook that she wanted to sell her Nikon D60, 2 lens one that sells for 250, case, charger, and other accessories. She wants $450. Good price? What do yall think?

She just sent me the info on the lens...one 18-55mm lens and a 55-200mm lens.

It was bought in 2009.

That sounds like a great deal if the camera has never been damaged. I have the Nikon D60, the 18-55 lens and the 55-200 lens and all the toys (tripods, a remote, etc) that go with it. I paid over $1,000 for the equipment I have. I really love this camera.

A small correction to your # 5: The sensor location is better known as the "film plane" not the nodal point. Rather, the camera should be rotated around the optical center, or non-parallax point (NPP) to avoid distant objects within the image to shift in relation to one another. A real headache for panorama photographers.

Julian,

Thanks for clearing that up. There is a lot of pano misinformation out there and I don't want to be responsible for spreading around anything that isn't correct.

Don't tell anybody but for some of my far away landscape panos I handhold and rotate my body with the camera held to my face. Not even close to correct form but with a distant horizon you can get away with it. ;-)

Seeing as how I'm a rookie,I didn't,and don't still, know or actually understand half of the rules,or the "non-rules.I just did what you just said (holding the camera & turning my body).I was also using a FujiS1800 digital camera w/ a slight zoom.I guess it came out ok(or you guys were just being nice).Jen.

You're being modest; that is a great shot. I am going to try your method to see if I can finally get a good pano. Thanks for sharing.

Do you have any suggestions for places to go or things to see in Michigan, other than the better known tourist attractions? If someone were visiting this state next fall, what would you recommend to them?
