Somebody had to be the first to put these sort of pictures up and it was me. Christmas market in Koblenz Germany.
The third one has appeared on the Hog previously in the Street section.

Not much opportunity for anything resembling a winter photo in Northern Virginia this year (it's mid-70's right now and supposed to get close to 80 tomorrow), but at least some mornings the cars were nice and frosty for some close up pix.

Left to itself, nature makes some beautiful patterns. The first is an example of what my old phys chem prof used to call 'ghostly dendrites'. Ice crystals form and link up all by themselves. It is not obvious what is happening at first but all of a sudden a fern leaf appears and even though you have been watching it, you are still not quite sure how it got there. Maybe there is an idea for a time laps sequence.

A really fine character study Voss. His clothes look good quality although I have a feeling he is hoping for someone to offer to hem his trousers for him.

Spot on, Sir... Freezing rain coming in, I'll be down there. Freezing rain can be a grocery basket for photohraphy

That is something we don't get overmuch here so for me it is lack of opportunity. We did have a famous hail storm about three years ago that did serious body damage to thousands of cars.

I could probably be sued for this one...unauthorized internal investigation....This is the brain of a ice chunk

Lake Vostok here we come. I guess the white chunks are from the surface of the river and the brown mushy stuff is dirty river water that has mixed in and then frozen. Nice one but no log effect here.

What happens when the ice goes down the rains rise the rivers, the current help break up and push the ice and really packs it in. We are expecting rain and freezng rain and I'll be there. As for the trees, well this is town property, closed down with a gate and don't you just know that someone among the higer ups of the town will be getting frre stovewood for next year

Hi Roadrunner, I guess you are going to have your work cut out at least until February turns the corner, maybe a bit longer. Others on this site know you better than me, I should recognise the emblem on your hat but being a hick from Europe I have to admit my ignorance. What is your connection to the land, are you a ranger of some sort, just guessing. Re the firewood, that is not the way the world should work but we all know it is the way it does.

Our big cold spell and snow in South Carolina.

The warm tones of the snow in those branches almost make it look like cherry blossom and a half frozen waterfall is something I do not get to see too often.
