Do you want OLED 4K? I lean towards Sony but bought a 58” Samsung 4K Smart TV at Costco a few months ago for $539.00. OLED or QLED is the way to go but comes with a cost.

I'm old so either I spend it now or leave it to the kids that don't need it.
I am looking at QLED. Except for features the big 3's IQ all look the same.
Generally I don't like Sony for its complicated menus.....I guess my bias applies to cameras?
......right now its a toss up....and I'm tired of the internet reviews.....the big box sales kids are helpful....to a point.

TV buying is hard since it an 7 to 10 year purchase.....a lifetime in tech

Is IQ the correct term for TV's like cameras?

All help is welcome.

I'm getting ready to buy a 4K 65" TV .....the picture quality is wonderful
If I didn't need to shop for a TV, I'd answer no the all the other 4K questions. Trading up usually doesn't concern me.

Anybody got and opinion on Sony, Samsung or LG?
I'm leaning toward Samsung for the one cable connect but Sony has a killer picture....as do they all

I know Im off topic but you all are so helpful and opinionated in the equipment purchase area.
I appreciate all advice

I feel a nostalgic as the rest of you about the wet process. Sure we should teach it.
But lets face it, the Silver print process is now an "alternative process" like Dye Transfer, the Daguerreotype and platinum and palladium printing.
As us old folks die off, not too many young people will embrace this antique process. This is a digital world and its moving faster and faster.
Can anyone imagine a 15 year old kid doing darkroom work when they can get the same result with 10 minutes of PS?

I'm serious ..... How many people still make tintypes .... I can think of one guy today.

It is sad to see something we loved so much disappear. Gosh the darkroom was such fun!

Not to suggest that you haven't looked into all the aspects of the 610 ....which I agree is a rotten camera for auto focus .
Have you seen Steve Perry's Book "Secretes to the Nikon Autofocus System?
The 610 is still a terrible camera but there was a lot of very helpful advice to getting the darn thing to work better.

Is this what you are trying to accomplish?
https://www.johndyergems.com/catalog_pages/gemstone-stone-Tourmaline1.html

These are shot with back light on a white plexiglass table and the the grey is added later in PS
There are many ways to shoot everything ....I assume your gems are not mounted ?

Shooting jewelry is a completely different process.....that would be more of a front light with soft boxes
You should work backward and decide how you want the photo to look and "build" a simple set up from there.

As for the lens, it depends on the size of the gem.... a 105 macro and extension tube should be fine ....you'll need a tripod or support rig
Also shoot in Manual and bracket 1/3 stops

If we lived closer my wife would love to barter .......any photos you could post of what you do?

A full frame camera is good. You can make a good image with any camera. This is why.

True enough and a very nice photo as well

For nature and wildlife, I would choose the D500 over the D610 or D750. It doesn't matter that it is a DX camera. It is a great camera.

Please explain?
There is nothing like Full Frame...... IMO

Get the 750.
I have a 610 its a very nice camera ....but it still spits oil on to the sensor and it does not focus very well in low light.
I thought the 610 would be the perfect camera for me but these design flaws are hard to live with especially, when the 750 is such an attractive price.

The IQ on either camera is wonderful. The 750's better focusing system is a big deal!

I still use a 610 as trading up doesn't make sense but to start from scratch no doubt the 750 is the better choice.

I love Nik and U point technology rocks!

I am hoping for the best with DoX and I will support them if they come out with a "fun" product

For now my old copy works fine ... I would love an up date ;-) The origional Nik's was such a great product!

Has anyone notices how great PS CC is? I'm still using PS6 (5 years old) but those newly refined selection tools ...WOW!
Nik and U point in the early days saved a lot of time making selections and adjustments in PS.....

More than likely PS will replace everything. Its easy*, simple to use.... free updates for 10 bucks a month.
*Easy once you remember where all the tools are.

I know we all hate subscriptions but more and more I hate being left behind.

I just checked the wife's Leica. You are correct.... made in Japan ......the menu is still nothing like a German M240.
But if that's worth the extra money .... got for it. Leica will still send it to someone else if it needs repair.

Don't get me wrong ...I'm a Leica Fan and thinking about the CL ...... also to replace me Nikons

"Leica D-Lux (typ-109)" must be the dumbest ever camera name ........

You buy a camera for its name??? Whats a smart name for a camera? D1x .... M240 ..... Rebel..... Oldsmobile 442 ?

Seriously What ???? Dumbo is a great name for an Elephant and then there is the nuclear weapon "Fat Boy"

"Whats in a name ..... a Rose by any other name would smell as sweet"

I also heard that Panasonic is made in china and Leica in japan.

I doubt that true, They are most likely made in the same factory just branded differently and with slight different firmware.

My wife uses a Dlux 6 and its a wonderful camera....no better or different than the Panasonic LX7..... the camera I used to recommend to friends.

That said if your considering Leica is there any point to buying a model that's 100% made by Panasonic?
Why not go for the CL? Its German, 100% Leica and the IQ is amazing. Also you get all those fabulous Leica lens choices.

You'll never pick up your Nikon again.

Whats the only rub...The price of course....and getting bitten by the Leica bug;-)
