I like #3 #4. they show that you have moved on from 'oh what a lovely view' to how can I give a different perspective on that view.
Well done.

You have posted 4 excellent images here. I am especially fond of the first because of the light and shadow patterns. Super nice photo. Welcome to UHH, and I will look forward to seeing more of your work.

Thanks, tbell. Happy to hear about #1, as it is the most recent of the four.

This is my first attempt at uploading some images.
Please bear with me if I goof it up.
These are shots of the Otter Tail River in northern Minnesota.

Actually Aperture has been keeping up as I used it for my previous Oly Omd 5 MkII. I believe Apple will up date shortly.
As to Lightroom. Being impatient I bought it today and the version which I assumed was up to date specifically listed th 5 MkII with an asterisk. When clicked it showed the RawFormat not yet available!

The update is available on Creative Cloud. I applied it 4 days ago and it will take care of your issue. I was once an Aperture user as well. I made the switch to Lightroom quite some time ago when Apple dropped their support. Now that I'm past most of the learning curve I find that I like it considerably more than Aperture.

Check for Lightroom update. I updated mine last week and it now will import the .ORF files from the EM-1 mkII. I'm liking the oly more every day! Hope you are enjoying yours as much!

I shoot both DSLR and mirrorless. I had planned to trade my Canon gear on Olympus m4/3 primarily to save on weight and space for motorcycle trips. I spent two years shooting an Olympus EM-5 mk II almost exclusively and have been so pleased with the results that I recently upgraded to the EM-1 mk II. That said, a few months ago I picked up a Canon 5D mk IV and since have been shooting both formats.

They both have advantages and disadvantages. The full frame Canon produces better images, particularly in low light situations. You can use much higher ISO settings and still come away with good images. I also prefer its optical viewfinder to the EVF on the Olympus and I find it easier to change settings and navigate menus, though this may simply be because I have been shooting Canon cameras for over 40 years and the muscle memory is pretty well established.

The Olympus provides quite the savings in weight and space, especially when carrying very long lenses. The Leica/Panasonic 100-400 is a small fraction of the size of a full frame lens with an equivalent field of view (200-800mm). The new EM-1 mk II is super fast at focusing and has very fast burst modes. It also produces excellent images at lower ISO settings.

The good news is that you can hardly lose with all the fantastic cameras available today. As others have said, get out to a camera shop so you can hold the various models and find one that feels natural and comfortable in your hands. Consider what type of photos you will be taking and how often a savings in weight will be of benefit. I agree that mirrorless is the way of the future, but it has a little way to go yet.

Good luck and most importantly, get a camera that you will use as much as possible!

Hi all. I've been following the site for some time now and have thoroughly enjoyed many different posts, both of topics and photos. I finally decided to register as I think I may be able to contribute some valid information from time to time.

I spent the bulk of my career in the commercial printing business specializing in electronic prepress. This is the area responsible for taking original material, such as a photo file, and preparing it for printing either to paper such as on a large format inkjet printer or to metal plates to be used on large printing presses.

I am currently retired and loving it! I am spending a lot of my time reenergizing my love of photography with the intent to become the best photographer I can be. Happily, thanks to information learned on this forum, other online sites, books and friends, I feel I am making some pretty good progress.

I have used Canon equipment since 1970 and currently use a 5D mk IV and a 7D. In the interest of saving weight and space, particularly important on extended motorcycle trips, I added an Olympus OM-D EM-5 mk II about two years ago. I was impressed enough to invest in their EM-1 mk II quite recently. Clearly, I have had a prolonged case of GAS for the past couple of years, but I think I am starting to free myself from its grasp.

I like to shoot most everything from landscapes to street to macro to birds to still life.

Glad to be joining the group!
