Hi folks, I made this photograph about 30 years ago along Pescadero Road in south-west San Mateo County, about 6-8 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. I have a show coming up and I think the the variety of the trees would be appropriate in the title instead of "Trees, Pescadero Road." Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Fred

Here are some buds from my back yard from yesterday evening. I know that one is a morning glory, taken in the afternoon, so I expect that she wasn't at her best. I am not sure about the other two but they photographed fairly well.
Best to all, Fred

Thank you for your generous comments. And also thank Sony, Carl Zeiss and Zerene.

There was a post here about a week ago with an image of what was called a Hosta Flower. I may have one too but it is not open yet. I photographed it a couple of days ago and would like to know if this is one of those. The flower stems shoot out of the base of an extremely tall plant, two stories, that has only been growing in the yard about two or three years. Any guesses?
Thanks, Fred

I sell my carbon transfer prints for $600.00 & $800.00. The smaller are transferred to 12 x 16 paper and are presented on 16 x 20 museum rag board. The larger are transferred to 16 x 20 paper and are mounted on 20 x 24 boards.

I am a subscriber and have learned a great deal of very valuable information from Lloyd. My advanced cancer has caused me to abandon my large format cameras and transition to digital. He has engaged in private correspondence with me and has been most gracious and knowledgeable through first-hand testing and I appreciate that. Certainly, much of the topics he addresses are covered elsewhere but I am not sure how rigorous others' testing is conducted.

My solution to this problem is to never re-use a card. I use 128 GB cards because I do a lot of focus stacking which requires up to 35 incremental images of a given subject. Once a card is full, I retire it to my safe deposit box. I only keep my finished images on my computer respecting digital images. My film scans are all kept in a separate file as scanned and spotted at 100%. I also transfer these files to cards for storage. Once I start to convert them into digital negatives for carbon transfer prints, I move them so the original scans are not corrupted. I am not aware of any time limitations on SDHC cards. If they deteriorate over time in storage, my plan is not very sound.

I suggest using an "L" bracket. That way the camera's weight is always directly over the center axis of the ball head and tripod.
Good luck, Fred

Due to advanced cancer I was compelled to abandon my large format cameras and move to digital. On the recommendation of my printing mentor I purchased a Sony a7RII. I have always been partial toward German optics so the availability of Carl Zeiss lenses made it an easy sell. The combination of the Sony 41mp sensor and the resolution of the Zeiss lenses in some ways mimics the kinds of imagery captured with my Linhof and Rodenstocks kit. Additionally, the use of Zerene Focus Stacking software allows me to use my lenses at their optimum apertures which produces images not attainable with a single exposure on sheet film. I have several recent posts requesting plant identification and you can see the results that I am getting. Excellent equipment and meticulous technique shows in the print.
Best to you, Fred

Thank you all for your help with my ignorance. I still would not scrape a sunburn with that plant.

I figured it out. The shaft attached to the knurled knob is half-round. The other half is ground flat. Just below the mounting plate is a hemi-circular groove cut into the center column so when the column is in the lowest position, the knurled knob can be turned 90 degrees placing the round surface into the groove which disallows the center shaft from being extended. It took a few minutes but that is the mystery solved.
Thanks all, Fred

I have not attached a head to the tripod as yet. The top plate has a 3/8-18 stud and has three set screws to prevent rotation of the head once it is screwed down. The knurled knob is some distance away from the top plate and does not elevate with the center post.
Thanks for thinking about this puzzler.

Hi folks. I just bought a Giottos Professional Tripod MT 8160 on EBay and have figured out every little knob but one. There is a small knurled knob with a pin at 90 degrees that fits into a slot on the head. When the knob is pulled outward, the pin clears the slot but the knob doesn't turn. Any idea what this thing does?
Thanks, Fred

I'll bet those little barbs really hurt sunburned skin.
Thanks for the ID.

Hi all. I promise that this will be the last plant puzzler from me for awhile. Again, California last week at my sister's house. What is this thing called, please? Thanks for looking, Fred
