BushDog, what telephone number were you calling? I am still getting their voicemail and I am calling 1-385-248-0777. Very frustrating!

That was my expectation when I called but all I got was ‘leave a message and we will call you back’, and so far no return call.

Wow! They must have something unusual going on … maybe pandemic related. I hope they come through for you and resolve your issue quickly.

I think you most likely got a better image than she did! 😉

My experience with getting advice from RRS has been nothing short of excellent —- but that has all been done with telephone calls. Everyone that I have spoken to at RRS has been knowledgeable and helpful.

I am new to Sony and have been doing research. I found this guy who has created a list of lens he found to be sharp on the A7RIV...it would appear, at least according to him, the f2.8 would add some sharpness. I am always surprised at how often Sigma comes in right at the top. Primes are a go to for sharpness as well.

I think this chart is a great reference of lens choices for use on Sony mirrorless e-mount bodies. There are two lenses on it that, in my opinion, are ranked lower than they deserve. I think they deserve a higher ranking.
- Sony 85mm f/1.4 GM
- Zeiss Batis 25mm f/2

For frame of reference, I’ve owned about 55 lenses over the past 16 years. These include six in the “Outstanding”, seven in the “Excellent” and five in the “Very Good” categories of this chart.

Thanks for the identification, Quixdraw -
Looks like a different company than the one I’ve used. The one I’ve used is EZCanvas (affiliated with FinerWorks) in San Antonio.

If it’s the same Easy Canvas available to me locally here in San Antonio, it’s a very good company and I have been very happy with them.

Nothing seemed to calm my dogs for their intense fear of thunder & lightning or fireworks until I tried the Rx Sileo. It works amazing for both of my dogs.

That is an excellent choice. (And I’m one of the ones that suggested the possibility of the A1.)

Used 7D mk ll --100-400 ll lens (Canon) Probably not as good but $7500 cheaper . Save your money

You are correct. You can save a whole lot of money with other choices. The 7DII is an excellent crop sensor camera in a super solid body. I recently sold mine to a photographer friend whose camera finally quit on him. $10k can buy a whole lot of gear. My suggestion was based on the criteria in the original post and the enjoyment I get out of the gear I suggested. Your viewpoint is most definitely something to consider.

Your owl image is fantastic! 👍🏽

Camera Sony a1 $6,498 Back ordered
Lens Sony FE 100-400mm F/4.5-5.6 GM $1,998
Lens Sony FE 35mm f/1.4 GM $1,398
Extra battery NP-FZ100 $78
Memory cards (2) Sony 256GB SF-M Tough Series UHS-II $230 Back ordered
TOTAL $10,202
Notes:
1) I have all of these
2) If you buy from B&H using their PayBoo card, you wind up paying these amounts - saving the sales tax
3) Camera and memory cards are currently out of stock.
4) This is just my opinion. But, in the past 16 years, I’ve had about 25 camera bodies and about 55 lenses. These include Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji
5) Since you’re starting basically from scratch, I’d go mirrorless over DSLR. Lots of advantages.

Where have you been BushDog, I feel like I am the only Sony person here at times in UHH discussions that are so dominated with Canon and Nikon folks , fanboys and fangirls, LOL

(I did shoot pro Nikon and Canon for 40 years before moving to Sony in January 2017)
Cheers

LOL - there are some of us around. 😄
Like you, I’ve also shot with other brands over many years. Mostly Canon but also Nikon, Olympus, Fuji & Ricoh.

So as not to completely hijack the OP’s thread, I’ll throw out this observation:
I absolutely love my a7Riii bodies. I just love the images that sensor creates. And the price on that body has come way down.

I’ve had or have:
A7Rii (sold)
A7Sii (sold)
A7Riii (two copies -still have)
A7Riv (still have)
A7Siii (still have)
A1 (still have)
This is just my opinion but the older “W” battery in the ii versions drove me nuts. I was constantly carrying around three, four or five extra batteries because they lost their charge so quickly. The longer holding charge starting with the newer “Z” battery made a huge difference.
