Not an accident.

Do you have any reason at all to believe that the problems with ‘self-driving’ cars is a result of “AI” as that term is normally used????

You could also have issues of defective technology, parts failures etc, which could alter the desired outcome.

If I'm understanding your question correctly (I'm old and slow), the answer is still that the issue is who or what originally programmed the AI. It can't think for itself, it can only react to circumstances and compare them to its data base.

There is a big difference between “computer controlled” and “AI”; don’t blame the latter for things caused by the former.

Actually, the true “gist” of AI is a machine learning from the results of its actions and from the knowledge of experts.

It still needs a programmer to tell it what to learn, i.e. what is a "good" result.

Is it usual practice to announce a system four months in advance??

Yes.

Well, Kudos to Sony. Quite an impressive feat.

I'll wait till the tech is available on my OM systems cameras.

But I will admit to a touch of envy, though I've never had an issue with rolling shutter, and don't really use flash. I can see, though, where the global shutter would make flash a lot easier.

Good luck to all of you who become the beta testers for this coool piece of gear.

So developers should be free to use other people's work without permission and or compensation?

Don'tknow--never shot a Panasonic, but love my two OM-1s.

I keep a 12-100 f/4 on one and a 150-400 f/4.5 on the other. Have a few other lenses, but I almost never use them.

Would love a full frame the same size, weight and cost as my OM systems, but physics.

Shot Nikon for years, but love the m43 form factor, superior weather sealing, best IBIS, and techie features.

YMMV.

That's nice.

I have no problem with it as long as it's not using other folk's intellectual property without their permission.

And I prefer to create my own images, not use a computer to do it for me.

Using class action suits and software that disrupts the AI algorithms .
This is a good thingif AI companies are using artists' work without permission to recreate images in that person's "style". I have had images used commercially (on a very small scale) without my permission, so i sympathize.

Right on. I can't stand the pretentious phrase "Nice capture."

I use a Topeak MRX Trunk bag on a rack on the back of my bike. It will hold my body (Nikon D500) and a Sigma 15-600 Cont. lens (disconnected from body). If you use the side panniers, you could fit a ton of gear. The main compartment is pretty well protected if you fall but the panniers are subject to impact.

What he (she?) said. I also have a Think Tank large holster that fits my OM-1 with 150-400 attached. I added some clips to it that allow me to just clip it to the side rail of the topeak rack.

I think Ring cameras are cordless, and recordon the cloud, so you can access them from anywhere, and stealing them won't helpthe vandals. I'd check them out. I think they are from Amazon.

Well, no argument there. I do have several of their pro lenses. My reluctance is, I just can’t justify the upgrade in my mind, primarily because of the learning curve for the new menu system. I also shoot with a Sony A7R IV, and the learning curve with new menu systems is a big time commitment. If OM Systems continues upgrading from the OM1 camera body, eventually I will probably make the move to take advantage of new features. However, as a general rule, I don’t upgrade until at least two generations of new devices have been released. Thanks for the input!

I wouldn't worry about the OM-1 menus system. It is a big step up from the old system, as is the camera. The layout is far simpler and better organized, but most of the menu choices are the same, so it's not like going to a different brand.
