Got lucky with a nice progression where the wing shape was caught in one image. Shot at the San Joaquin Wildlife Refuge in Irvine, CA. We had a day free of rains and it was productive!

I use ON1 primarily for my infrared work, but it seems like a super capable editor and the cataloguing is fairly intuitive.

What % of people drive a stick shift excluding truckers?
Some did that and soon realized brake pads are cheaper then clutches and trannies

SMH...you guys. Haha, I grew up with my dad teaching me how to use a stick...and all the things that go along with it, including smooth downshifting and getting rpms right, even to the point of not using the clutch. As a young driver my crowd all had fast cars and knew how to work on 'em...as an older driver loving sports cars it was the most natural thing to downshift, and *it* didn't burn the motor or tranny up at all, because I knew how to do it. I road bikes for 25-odd years and that was as natural as could be also, and if the guy behind me couldn't tell I was changing gears he was deaf! LOL...to each, I'm fully automatic now and have no desire to go back, but if I was in the seat and had a clutch pedal and a stick, it'd be easy as pie (or cake!).

I use a reader because it's much less hassle...also, this from a thought given to me years ago from a 'puter geek, less chance of some weirdity entering my camera *from* the computer.

Hi All:
I will chime in on this subject if I may?
I cover football, baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball and soccer. I also shoot (like Tom) for Maxpreps and like to shoot about 300-400 shots per game. Now I am shooting bb and that's what I average. I shoot with a Nikon D4 after the game download to photoshop. Run the batch through Denoise so for two games runs around 6 hours I think. I go to sleep at that point.
Then edit and delete the bad ones.

...that's prolly about what I would do at a football or basketball game, too. I shoot 5fps for stuff like that, it allows me to get "ones" but I can press and get a decent sequence. For wildlife and surfing I usually go 15fps because there are many nuances to wing/wave positions (Z9 "native" is 20, but to me that's a little much). But I could be shooting a band competition of 32-40 groups...I want to get at least 200 keepers per group, alot of the time I get more, but since I process each group independently and shoot alot of portraits. I don't cull (since my D4 days I'm spoiled by very few focus problems...now it's even "worse" lol)...

Thanks. I shoot RAW and cull and edit in Lightroom. About 2K down to 600ish on first cut. Edited about 40 or so and exported 20 to DropBox for delivery to my editor.

...lots of sports guys shoot jpeg and upload right away. I'm like you in my pageantry shots, but since they're about individuals I don't cull and just go through 'em one by one (I've done 10k in a day (but average 6 to 8k), then break it down to the single groups in LR and do each one in order of appearance. Got a pretty good system, and the moms get good product in the end.
When I'm bursting wildlife or surfing, however, you can bet I cull!

Thanks Erich! Be careful with birch, I lucked out on that one the grain was running straight with no marbling...I used a pre-conditioner and it worked out! Shellac...Luster lacquer and a light wax, the outside was painted...
