CHG - thanks for the extraordinary amount of time and care you have spent on trying to get to the root of my problem(s).

And thanks to everyone else for their input. I will be considering everything said, and will try out all the procedures suggested.

This has been an extremely useful exercise.

P.S. I seldom shoot in Shutter priority - Aperture is my 'default'.

CHG: thanks once more for such a detailed and thorough analysis.
Yes: Error 20 happens with all lenses. Its onset is delayed if I have not used the camera for a few days; if I try to use it at frequent intervals, I am often not able to take even one picture (loud 'clunk' which can be felt as well as heard). It only occurs when I'm trying to shoot: I can review pictures for as long as I like without 'interruption'.

It will eat them if desperate, but they're all skin and seed. It is most likely looking for tourists bearing bananas!

Had to pause because Tropical Storm Gonzalo was aiming for us - in the end, it just fizzled out - quite an anti-climax, thank goodness.
Here are some more pictures from the 60D. Few recent ones, because the camera keeps shutting off with Error 20. These are neither cropped nor processed; all JPEGs.
They are not actually terrible: it's just that they are not up to the standard of so many on UH, nor of many smartphone photos.
Thanks yet again to any of you with the forbearance to keep looking and commenting!

That's the AIDA! I'm a semi-retired tour guide for German speakers so I will probably have been on tour with guests from that ship!

I have been shooting Grenada for 26 years and there has been a deterioration rather than an improvement- hence my cry for help. My pictures used to be used for a tour company's website - now the quality just isn't good enough. Except (to repeat myself) some of the Olympus ones. Others have contributed pictures taken with Panasonic and Sigma (don't know which models) which are appreciably sharper than my Canon with any lens.

Yes, it's a seriously beautiful island. And, currently, Covid-free. That's why I want to copture it as well as possible! I really look forward to your pictures.

CHG Canon - yes, I can appreciate that you would need the originals. They are probably on a backup hard drive that has become corrupted. It might take me several days - or longer - to track them down. Thanks for your persistence!

Dear All,

Once again, I am overwhelmed by the slew of adivce and ideas - too many of you to mention individually - but THANK YOU to every one of you. I shall weigh it all up carefully.

Meanwhile, you asked for sample pictures. Here are some, though I had discarded the worst. Some of these have been sharpened or otherwise post-processed. Several are cropped, but slightly. Dirty filters are unlikely to be an issue.

A particular disappointment was the shot of two dogs on the steps. This came out horribly with the 18-135, though helped by subsequent sharpening: I immediately subsitituted the 50mm; it was visibly sharper (though not excellent), but some of the advantage was lost through necessary cropping.

I think you will agree that, compared with the better pictures on UH (and with some from my Olympuses, even the TG5), these are less than impressively sharp.

Thanks yet again
Ian
