There was a time when a refurbished electronic item was totally inspected by the manufacturerโ€™s repair facility if returned, whether defective or not. I donโ€™t know for sure if that is still true, but is why I bought refurb from a reputable dealer if the price was right. Every computer I bought in the last 40 years has been refurb with never a failure, as well as any camera I have bought as a refurb. In each case the item was replaced only because I wanted or needed something more advanced or attuned to my wants or needs. If the price is close I may buy new, but not that often. Remember; new items generally come down an assembly line with maybe one in however many getting inspected for any flaws (think possible recalls in the future?). A refurb has been inspected by a reputable dealer when returned.

Just my thoughts. Different people have different criteria for their purchases or their ability to afford their choice.

In spite of the buzz kills here, the point of the post was that there is a refurbished sale on Nikon gear. Maybe concentrate on that.

My photography is just a form of hunting for me. I have been a hunter for 68 years but when I turned 66 I had a lot of retired time so I took up hunting with a camera. I especially enjoy the spring migration of waterfowl so I go out in the spring in my solo canoe, put out decoys, and photograph ducks and geese as they come in. I also canoe into different osprey and eagle nests and wait for the birds to return with food for their young. Running the shore line of many lakes early in the morning gives many opportunities to photograph shorebirds and warblers.
I keep my best photographs on my computer and get a number enlarged on glass or metal, or on stretched canvas. These are put on the wall of my den and remind me of all the great mornings I have had out enjoying nature.
When hunting with a camera I do not have to be concerned with seasons, bag limits, or protected species.
I also have nothing to throw out from freezer burn when we clean the freezer each spring. I still hunt in the fall
but hunting the rest of the year with my camera helps keeping my 81 year body young. I just wish I would have all these photographs when I was teaching science classes.

Itโ€™s hard to believe, but there are young people out there who canโ€™t tell time by an analog watch or clock. Really want to confuse them; show them 24 hour time. :-)

My watch used to reset itself automatically twice a year, within a matter of hours of the change. For some reason, I have had to do it manually the last 2 or 3 times. After 8 years of so of having the watch, has the signal gotten weaker on my Citizen Eco? Battery, maybe?

I feel undressed if I don't have a wrist watch and pocket knife. I actually wear my pocket knife on my belt and carry one in my pocket, each has its usefulness, one is a multi-tool and the other is a semi-multi tool. My watch is a citizen that has multi functions on and the current one can reset for DST automatically.

Yupper. Agree. My Citizen watch used to re-set automatically for dst changes twice a year; but, 10 years after I got it, Ihave to change it manually. Donโ€™t know why. But, at least, I have figured out how.

And information from those same medical apps would be very valuable to your insurance company. They would pay big bucks to have access to your real time medical information. It might show that you spend 8 hours a day sitting in a chair and never get any exercise or that chocolate and alcohol are your two main food groups. Next thing you know your health insurance rates go up. I have no idea what information my existing technology is already sharing about me or with whom so I won't have a "smart" watch or one of those Alexa things. The internet is the wild west come to life so I try not to feed it.

I have my lights set to auto so they are always on when the car is running. I wish everyone would do that. There have been times when I saw a black auto coming from a heavily shadowed area of overhanging trees that made it virtually invisible until it popped out into a sunlit area. I also was behind a gray auto in a heavy rain storm that did not have its lights on. It was late afternoon and the car was very hard to see. I kept well back because I was sure a car coming from a side road was not going to see it and cause an accident. Some people are knuckleheads and a law that would make autos have lights on when running would keep those idiots from harming others.

I agree about dark cars. With the exception of one car, all my cars for years have been white.

Are you saying that a credit union based in the UK will be alright for me?

You might check near where you live if you are going to remain in the US. Most are federally insured to a certain amount. Donโ€™t know about transferring your retirement funds, but might be worth checking out. I think most credit unions are basically depositor owned (mutual). Mine is a very large one and has a number of branches in Texas. In 53 years it has never made a mistake on my accounts.

Might consider a credit union. I switched over to one for my accounts over 50 years ago. Usually lower car loan interest rates and great customer service. Mine is big on security and fees are almost non-existent. Just my 2 cents worth.
