What is your purpose in photography?

I have asked myself this recently and I am reading a book that among other things, promises to “ and finish with how to find your purpose in photography.”
That is a bold claim and something I have asked myself more than once. There is no single answer of course, because it is subjective subject.
So I am curious, what do readers here say in response to “What is your purpose in photography?“

I ask myself the same question often…I am a hobbyist…I do not print a lot of my images. I do not enter contests. I take classes and follow photographers I admire. I never get up before sunrise to get those sunrise, golden light shots, but always hope that I will wake up early enough one day to do so (my gear is always ready to go!).
I enjoy shooting many different kinds of things….depending on where I am. If I were to really focus on “what is my purpose in photography” and what I like best about my work, it would be simple images with clean lines and lots of negative space…and often in black and white….

I think Linda said it best. I shoot photographs to capture memories, and try to do it in artful and creative ways.

That is an interesting premise. I try to photograph something I have never seen before. Perhaps I will photograph something I have seen before but do it in an abstract way using a macro lens.

Because it, in all it's variations, is fun. To CHG_CANON why should I care if it's my last image?

Would it change your level of effort? Your approach and / or level of consideration? Your purpose for raising the camera?

It seems to have changed a bit, expanded possibly, since the purpose interest bug first bit me. So, it may change more as time passes...who can know.
Is it fair to include that?
•• get a visible, tangible record of an object or scene, for a memory jogging tool, and for the memory basis in preparation for the days memory between the ears fades and goes bye-bye
•• try to learn more the ways and means to improve the output result, to move farther from beginner "plain and blah" toward the "never-ending reach for real excellence" through pursuit of better capture and processing knowledge and experience
•• an outlet for non-verbal deep appreciations and emotion anchors of the soul through efforts to learn the craft well enough to produce pictures of communication that have soul
Is it fair to include that?

I took your statement to mean........
Take each photo as if it is your last, and try to make it all appear better that all others, or you best. If that is done, the each photo taken gets better.
