A good analogy would be a single light source (e.g., on-camera flash) vs. a couple of speedlights off axis. The single centered light source will produce a much more prominent shadow behind the subject.

I've been doing some of that, too.

That's what I use. Works great.

Being in lock-down if not an 'if' but a 'when' now.

That said, if you are locked in, what type of image will you create?

Macro of inside stuff, but "lock-down" doesn't mean you can't go outside. It means avoid other people.

I am using a Canon 80D with 60mm 2.8 lens. Camera is in P mode with Flash. I have the focus set to use the center 9 focus points. Went to a party and took photos. Had a 3 people standing together and I took the photo. The center photo is sharp and is the right person, however the left person is out of focus. Now I am thinking this is a screwy lens but this phenomenon does not always happen. Sometimes it the other way around. I took a group shot of 6 people. Some are in sharp and in focus and some are not. I took 3 shots. The focus is different on all 3 photos with not all being in focus at once. I tried using all 45 focus points and letting the camera decide which was not a whole lot better. However I can shot center focus with a single person and get a great shot. Obviously I do not understand how to control focus.

What am I doing wrong.

Definitely depth of field issue. Notice how the little girl is a bit out of focus, and the woman closer to the camera is definitely out of focus. You used f/5.6. In the same scenario the next time, try at least f/8, or better yet f/11. Focus on someone in the middle of the group, too, like the little girl.

Of course, to pull that off, I'd aim for aperture priority and not let the camera decide everything like it does in P mode.

Is that "215066" the serial number of the camera? If the camera was registered with Canon maybe the owner could be found. I register all of my Nikon gear on Nikon's website.

Yep. That's the serial number for the camera body.

Hi guys, a friend gave me a Tokina 80-200 lens. I have a Nikon D7200. Is there an adapter so I that could use it? Figured if anyone would know you guys would

Post a picture of the back of the lens so we can figure out what mount it is.

How do each of you keep track of your individual photos.
I have a Nikon 7100 and just hit DSC 9999 my next shot reverted back to DSC0001 not DSC10001
How can I continue to shoot DSC file name and automatically keep the numbers increasing instead of rolling over.
If I change the DSC file name does it do anything to the camera settings
Thanks for your input.

I would think Nikon would have a similar setup to the one Canon has that I use. In the computer during download, I have it create a folder for the date year-month-day, then drop all photos into that folder.

Yes, I have an Takumar Super Multi Coated 50mm f/1.4 that is very nice and compares very well to my new Sigma 50/1.4

I just sold a M SMC 50mm f/4 Macro that is very comparable to my Canon 50mm Macro, it was one of the sharpest lenses that I have ever mounted to my camera. The old M SMC 50/1.7 can be picked up on ebay for a song and it is actually an excellent lens...

This is my hobby, I buy these old lenses and tear them down if need be, clean them up and sell them on ebay... Evey now and again I come across a really great lens that I add to my collection, that is also how I obtained my Sigma 50.... a little cash and a couple of old lenses that I paid about $20 for. Worked for me and I think that the other guy was as happy with the deal as I was. Mostly I just get one or two bills paid each month out of this hobby and some really nice old glass.

That's what I'm planning on doing...a little extra cash on the side for a fun, new hobby.

Picked up an SMC Pentax 50/1.4 a while back. Darn thing is about as sharp as many of the new lenses, but way more fun because I get to enjoy focusing it myself, which puts me back into the loop instead of just pointing and shooting. Here's a shot with that lens.

Thanks for your comments. I have two Takumar 135mm f/3.5's one is the Super Takumar from the mid 60's and the other is the 135 preset from the late 50's, silver/black edition. The older lens looks as if it is brand new but the focus throw on it is so stiff that it causes the lens to unscrew from the adapter.... I am going to have to spring for some lube and tear that lens down... It looks to be a very simple design so no worries.

I haven't actually ventured inside my Taks yet, but the YouTube videos show it to be a pretty easy task.

If you can nail the focus (half the battle), these lenses can produce equal or some times better quality than native lenses (depending on the lens).

There's also something about having to manually set f-stops and manually focusing that makes me feel more in tune with photography.

My daughter is reporting that the shutter won’t trigger on her Cannon t3i. Has inserted different memory cards and taken battery out and reinstalled. She had just started taking orders for senior portraits and really needs to get this working. Any help would be great

My first thought if the shutter won't trigger is that it's not able to focus. Does she have another lens to try? Does it beep when it's properly focused (assuming she has that feature turned on)?

Worst case, she could definitely get another one or a better camera for likely less than it would cost her to get the T3i repaired.
