St Marks is very close to my brothers house. I will definately have him take me there. Crawfordville is also close to him. Thats where they shop for groceries etc. He lives across the road from the Ockalockne (SP) River. He has a pontoon boat he fishes from along the gulf. Hoping he will take me out while I'm there. I plan to take canon 100-400 L lens and 18-250 Signa lens. Due to carryon bag space I think these 2 lenses should cover me while there.

Thank you all so much for your advice and comments. I will do as you all suggested for settings, holding and focusing. I will also practice, practice, practice to get better. I think I already have the macro bug.
I will be visiting family in Panacea, FL, April 5 thru April 19th. Flying into Tallahassee. I need advice on where to photo wildlife and birds in this area of Florida. I won't have a car as my brother is planning to show me the area around where he lives. Neither he or his wife are into photography so afraid they won't know where to take me for photographing wildlife. Our range will be from Tallahassee west to Panama City along the Gulf Coast. Need recommendations to places to ask them to show me.

I was using Canon T5i with Canon EF 100 f/2.8 USM Macro Lens. This was my first attempt at using the macro lens since receiving it this week. Photos were taken at Clark County Wetlands Park Yesterday. Wasn't a lot around due to a lot of brush clearing in the park. Advice on how to get better, closer, etc., would be most appreciated.

WOW! That last shot is amazing.
Thank you for your help. I am looking at close up photos of flowers or other small items. Sorry I left that out it is what I am talking about. I don't do people shots so not interested in that aspect. I shoot landscapes, flowers, plants and wildlife. I am just starting to get into close up and macro photography. So all my current lenses are zoom lenses. I just got a refurbished Canon EF 100 USM Macro lens and I am practicing macro shots with it.

I am looking at the Canon EF 1.8 STM lens for close up and a walk around lens. I know that it will pair with my current camera, a Canon T5i asp-c. I am looking at wanting to upgrade to a full frame Canon in the future. How well does the STM lenses work with a full frame camera? Are they better than a Canon EF 50 1.4 standard lens for full frame cameras. I know "L" lenses are better quality but my budget does not allow for them. I don't want to have to buy the lens twice so advice is needed on which one to go with based on current and future needs.

Beautiful shot Gregory.

Thank you for your help. I will go there and read the section you suggested.
Great shot. Could you tell me what lens and setting you were using? I just got my first Macro Lens yesterday and am now in the learning phase on how to use it. I got the Canon EF 100 f2.8 USM lens. Pairing it with the Canon t5i APS-C camera. Any advice on shooting macro with this lens would be really appreciated.
Update on the lens. It arrived about an hour ago. Since this was a refurbished lens I wasn't sure what to expect as I have never bought refurbished gear before. Boy am I impressed. The lens looks brand new, not a mark on it. Glass is perfect. It came with both front and rear lens caps, a Tiffen Haze-1 Filter and the ET-67 lens hood. Now I just have to learn how to use it. This is my first prime lens. All my other lenses are zoom lenses.
Really appreciate everyone's help and advice.

Your advice is excellent on all aspects of my questions and lack of Macro Photography knowledge. Thank you for taking the time to post it. I did order the non IS lens as I could not afford the one with IS. I will check into the Canon extension tubes as I may want them after I get and practice with the lens. Its supposed to arrive today. I want to use the lens mainly for plants, flowers and small critters. The tripod ring is something I will definitely want to get.
Also many thanks to everyone who has given me great advice on this subject.
